I confess: initially my interest in this little volume arose from the Author's early connection with Fr Rolfe, whom his own son would later attempt to portray in that ill-considered but popular play HADRIAN THE SEVENTH. As it turns out, Luke (Senior) has considerable charm on his own ashe describes his work as Governor of the Colony of Fiji. His account of the South Seas is very stimuating, historically and anthroplogically. As he himself notes, that world was changing irreversibly duting the Second World War. A quick read, and a good one.
