The American Bookstore is a 100% Queensland owned and operated family business. It began life in 1957 in a small shop in Edward Street, Brisbane City. Founded by an American gentleman, the store imported titles from the USA and Japan not commonly available in Australia.

Update: The Book Garden and The American Bookstore seem to now be merged on the one website. There is no American Bookstore in Elizabeth Street anymore; they did move to Toowong but I cannot find any evidence of them still being there, and it seems they have moved online entirely. The Book Garden operates a mobile van that travels to early childhood centres and school libraries.
