I get my courses from my local library. To date, I've only checked out CDs which I've transferred to my iPod shuffle to listen to while running. My library also has a lot of the courses on DVD, so I may try those out at some point in the future as well.

Where do you get your Teaching Company courses (e.g., from the TC, library, eBay, etc)? What's your preferred medium (CD, dowload, DVD, etc.)? Where/when do you listen/watch (e.g., car, gym, couch, etc)?

I get my courses from the library as well. Never would be able to afford them otherwise. I mostly listen to them while I'm doing housework, via my iPod.

I buy them, but only when on sale. I treasure them like books and I usually listen to a course more than once.

I hemorhaged $$$ on EBay for a few years. I'm even stuck with some casette versions! (anyone want them?) I've a dozens of nearby town libraries. Even though I've been through many lectures, it is still a target-rich environment.

With a TBR pile of books and audiobooks climing into the 1500 range, re-listening to anything just never happens. Exception: TC lectures of history, philosophy, western civ, religion and literature.

Surprisingly, no one has yet mentioned getting Teaching Company courses from . . . ta da! . . . The Teaching Company! If you have not visited their website or are not on their mailing list, you have missed out on half the pleasure of being connected with those folks.

My first TC course I bought at eBay and come to find out I way overpaid. I could have had it for much less on sale at TC itself! I've listened to it several times, however, so it was worth it.

Every course at the TC goes on sale at least once a year. In addition to DVD and CD, you can get audio downloads in MP3 for most courses for even less. I have purchased courses in all formats, including the old audiotape and VHS, which they no longer produce.

TC's catalogs are like magazines with full feature articles on highlighted courses. I find it almost impossible to throw them away. Often they will transcribe and illustrate a single lecture from a course to give you a flavor.

Now, if there were a practical way to scan in those feature articles and catalog them . . .

I like their website a lot. It helps me to decide which courses to get from the library, or which ones to encourage the library to buy.

I used to buy them directly from the TC before I moved to an area with a good ILL program. I have old cassettes too. Including of one of my all-time favs: "Literary Modernism". Brilliant.

Oh, happy day! I happen to still have that technology involving bits of ribbon encased in polystyrene. I think they used to call them "audio cassettes". I picked up 24 TC binders full of hundreds of hours of lectures, at the Goodwill Outlet, for $5.
