Did anyone else cry when Rue died? I mean, we all know that Rue would have to die, but when Katniss started singing to her, I started to cry.

I knew as soon as she formed that alliance that Rue was going to die so it wasn't as bad.

Stupid ! Absolutly stupid ! I can't believe Suzanne Collins would do such a thing !!!! It was completly useless. She killed off the only reason she was fighting in the first place!
At first I didn't quite understand what had happened it was so unexpected, I took me a couple of pages to even comprehend it. Absolutly stupid, that completly ruined the series for me.
(anyone care to comment? i love a good debate)

I think it was just easier in the end. I guess she wanted katniss to be totallllyy depressed in the end. Her whole family gone. It also gave her an "excuse" to not make katniss be with Gale.

Are we talking about Rue here, or Prim?

I would kinda argue here.

On Rue's death: It was meant to be a shock, an eye-opener for Katniss, I think. Katniss compared Rue with Prim on several occasions, going to far as treating Rue like she does Prim. The thing is, when Rue died, it kinda showed Katniss what it would be like if Prim died. You know? I think it gave her more energy, and reminded her why Prim wasn't in the Hunger Games, and she was- it was because Katniss was trying to protect her. And it renewed her drive.

On Prim's death: It wasn't pointless, and neither was it "Oh, I'll kill Prim, and Katniss will get depressed and it'll be easy to pair her off with Peeta". Every single thing, I think, that happened in the book was carefully planned out. Every word.
For one thing, I personally do not hold Gale responsible for Prim's death. He did not cause it, he never set that bomb to go off. He loved Prim like he loved his siblings, and he loved Katniss and knew Prim was everything to her. I hold Coin wholly responsible for Prim's death. SHE ordered the bomb there, SHE made sure Prim was there, and also probably knew that Katniss would see her sister's death. Unless you forget here, Coin knew that after the Revolution, people may want Katniss their leader, and Coin was ambitious. She wanted to be leader. And she knew that the only way to ensure Katniss never demanded the leader's position (which would be backed by all the districts, because they love her) was to cripple Katniss. And the only way she could permanently do so was by taking away Prim, Katniss's pride and joy. And you have to admit, that it completely Coin.

(Don't forget she shot Coin, and not Snow. Ever wonder why she did that? Because even though she was broken with the loss of her sister, she was still sane enough to understand it was Coin's fault.)

She finally got together with Peeta not because she loathed Gale, I think, but because she was weary of war, and she was weary of fighting and death. Gale fled to District 2 because of survivor's guilt (I mean, how would YOU feel if you built a bomb that killed your best friend and lover's little sister?) and couldn't really face Katniss. Katniss chose Peeta because she had seen the change in Gale, and the war in him, and wanted to be as far away from any of that as she could.

Hope that makes sense.

Rue is my third favourite character! It was so hard to read about her death and soon I will have to watch it in the movie!

9- Wow!

In the book, I got misty eyed, but never cried. In the movie, I felt that I wasn't attached enough to her to cry. Maybe I felt slightly sadened, but I don't really feel that the audience felt a stong attachment to her as we did in the book.

From the beginning of the alliance I was wonder how she could separate from Rue....I think it was a spectacular finish to the bond.

Hello, I'm new :)
I think Rues death was extremely sad. Yeah we all knew she was going to die, how Collins worded it and how we saw it in the movie was very sad. I had to get up and leave the theater, I was crying that hard. I was very effected by a 12 year old girls death.
