I am a teacher who loves baseball. I even have a baseball unit for my third graders. As part of the unit they have to read a baseball book. I have quite a few in my collection, nonfiction and fiction. Some authors who have numerous baseball books are Matt Christopher, Robert Montgomery, Tristan Howard, and Dean Hughes. Another author, Dan Gutman takes a kid back to the time of a player in his Baseball Card Adventures. Students who have read them love them: Babe and Me, Shoeless Joe and Me are two popular ones in my classroom.

Other children's fiction with the theme of baseball include: In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord and Thank You, Jackie Robinson by Barbara Cohen.

There are also some fabulous picture books that deal with baseball. I have The Bat Boy and the Violin by Gavin Curtis. It is a wonderful story with beautiful illustrations by E. Lewis. I also use Teammates by Peter Golenbock which tells the story of Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson.

Michael Chabon wrote a baseball and fantasy themed novel for young adults called Summerland. Not just for kids. Sort of like Harry Potter meets The Sandlot (the movie).
