Oh Dear! Why didn't I find this Group Sooner?

Arrgh! I was going through the list of LT Groups and adding to my list, when I came across this group. I recently got Life and Fate and Generations of Winter from the library. They were recommended as alternatives to City of Thieves by other reviewers on amazon, who found City of Thieves a bit thin in places,not to mention historically inaccurate. I see the group has recently read the Grossman.

I have been toying with the idea of finally reading Dr. Zhivago as well - and I see that the group recently finished it as a group read.

I may not be too late for 2666 though, I read the first part on a cross-country flight and then put it aside to finish later. Where are people with this book?

And, what is up next?

Hi Anastasia! I haven't even started 2666 yet! But by the time I get around to it, it'll be too late to really join in properly. (But then again, you never know...)

Ok, I just went and voted. Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I still wish that I had found you sooner as I really, really want to do Zhivago and the contemporary Russians. Well, I will just post to the old threads anyway - that way, if anyone wants to answer they can. Hopefully I can keep up with both the old and the new. Going off to research Wives and Daughters as that seems to be the front-runner for the next book.

Ok, I can get behind Elizabeth Gaskell; she is a blank in my reading life that needs to be filled so I am excited about this. When do we start?

I actually checked Wives and Daughters out of the library last week, and so far so good.

I've read Cranford, which is a good start to Gaskell, and I've watched the TV version (BBC? A & E?) of North and South - though I need to read it. Also on my TBR pile is The Life of Charlotte Bronte. It was mentioned in another book I finished recently, The Brontes Went to Woolworth. Gaskell was a contemporary of Dickens, though I suppose not nearly as famous.

Ok, I will get started on this as soon as I can. I wanted a more challenging read than I usually have, just to ensure that I still have a brain, thus the Grossman and the Askenov in the TBR pile. And I haven't read Gaskell, so this should be fun!
