Just for the heck of it, I thought we'd get lists going on all the books major contributors have written, and the books they mention in each book. Seeing as Basbanes seems to be a common entry point (and a common favorite) I thought we'd start with him.

A Gentle Madness

Patience and Fortitude

About the author: Inside the Creative Process

The above is, as far as I can tell, a complete list of all the books by or containing writings by Nick Basbanes that have been published thus far. My challenge to you all? Create a complete list of every book mentioned in all these.

What great books! I've read many of these long ago, and sometimes can't remember which covers which subject (ie, book dealers, cultural genocide through lost libraries, collectors, etc.). But they are all excellent.

...I'll pass on the challenge. 'Not with the burgeoning TBR pile in my humble library!

While we're talking about Nicholas Basbanes, you might enjoy this interview and tour of his home library on C-Span:

I found it comforting to know that he has also resorted to double shelving his collection.

I was fortunate to meet Nichoas Basbanes at the Miami Book Fair for three years in a row. He's very much a gentleman, pleasant and low-key. He's one of those people who make you feel good about yourself. He's also a fountain of knowledge. I would have gladly talked to him for hours.

3> I've watched that a couple times now and enjoy it every time. I'm rather envious of his LOA collection, among other things. I wonder if that book he was working on is out yet? They don't mention a title (probably too early in the process at that point) so its rather hard to look up.

He does not list his history of Paper on his web site. My guess is that he is still working on it.

Reading Basbanes inspried me to read Outwitting History. Excellent!
