It's a pity Lambda Rising is closing, it was the best gay book store that I knew of. But oh wel.. I guess that's how things go these digital age

I don't think it's a product solely of the digital age.
Bookstores like Lamda Rising, People Like Us, Oscar Wilde opened and were successful because it was difficult, if not impossible, even in big cities, to find books aimed at gay/lesbian readership at general bookstores. Now even B&N and Borders, not to mention independent bookstores, have sections dedicated to such books.
We've lost a lot of feminist bookstores for the same reason.
