I just got a message that there is an Austen exhibit at the Morgan Library in New York City running from now until March. Alas, impossible for me to attend, but it sounds lovely!
Where I learned about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/07/arts/design/07austen.html?pagewanted=all
And the Morgan Library website: http://www.themorgan.org/home.asp
Even if you can't make it to the Austen exhibit, if you're ever in NYC, the Morgan Library is a must see for any book lover.

I'm definitely going to check that out - I'd have to be crazy not to, as I work a few blocks away. Plus I've never gotten around to visiting the Morgan Library. If this isn't a reason to, nothing is!

This looks great, Nickelini. Thanks for letting us know about it. I'm going to get to NYC a month late; maybe I can figure out a way to get there earlier! If not, I'll still try to visit the Morgan Library, which I've never done either.

I went to this actually. Great stuff at the exhibit, but it was really hot and crowded the day I was there. The Morgan's website has a whole area devoted to this exhibit, which has a short documentary on J.A. and a scanned version of one of her manuscripts (Lady Susan) with audio and visual "translations" of her writing. If you can't make it to the exhibit, it's a good runner up.

One of the letters held at the Morgan (I am not sure if all of the letters they have there are on display) is Letter 57 (per Le Faye's numbering system).
I have been discussing Letter 57 recently at my blog:

The starting point for reading Letter 57 is the following sentence:
"As for Mr. Floor, he is at present rather low in our estimation."
Do you understand WHY that is such an interesting sentence?
