Is there a good Genealogical software program that does timelines? I would also be interested in books that show good timelines of American, British or Danish history.

Rootsmagic will create timelines for individuals or for a group of individuals. Most major public libraries and university libraries will have several options of books that provide timelines. For American history, check the subject heading "United States--History--Chronology" in the online catalog. For other regions, change "United States" to the appropriate country such as "England" or "United Kingdom" for British.

You can create printable timelines for individuals online at: http://www.ourtimelines.com/create_tl_2c.html

I thought that was pretty cool.

Re: Master Genealogist, here is a link to some that are available for input directly into the program, as well an instruction page which gives some samples as they are used in TMG's website companion program, Second Site:

In my free time I have been researching a 1920-21 strike at a Newport Kentucky steel mill. I am using TMG to keep track of the people and events involved and have made a timeline just for it. So far the program has done everything I hoped for. I can add events, put those events on the time line and note any people that attended the event. I think the feature was intended to help track who attended weddings and funerals, with the intention of making it easier to spot in-law and marriages of female family members but it works just as well with town meetings and other gatherings.

To be perfectly honest, I have no free time. The demands I have made on the program have been limited so far, the program is complicated, I have to dig to find out how to do what I want but there is always a way to do whatever I want to do. Once I master TMG I think it will be the most useful software I have ever purchased.

I don’t want to sound like a company shill. Family Origins was my genealogy software for over a decade and even though the company was gone the program did everything I needed for my family history. Once I went back to school for a degree in history is when TMG started feeling that I needed the all the features TMG offers.
