I'm a big fan of pop-up books (not to mention carousel books, tunnel books, and the like). The engineering amazes me! The book that started it all for me was Keith Lye's The Earth in Three Dimensions : A World Atlas and Pop-Up Globe. What did it for you?

It's not really a pop-up book (but tunnel books count!), but I have fond memories of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. A friend bought me the new board book of it for my last birthday!

Tunnel books absolutely count! One of my favorites is A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, a tunnel book of Seurat's painting.

What are tunnel and carousel books? I just love Sabuda's books but he hasn't published nearly enough of them for me. Does anyone else have pop-up books that are as good? I love playing with my books :).

The best way I can describe tunnel and carousel books is by giving you some links:

I'm a big fan of Sabuda's, though I like his simpler work (like his Christmas books) better than the more elaborate stuff he's been doing lately.

I think the favorites in my collection are my Haggada of Passover, Rein Jansma's Stairs, and the Gary Greenberg/Matthew Reinhart collaborations, Pop-Up Book of Phobias and The Pop-Up Book of Nightmares.

Two very special books are the Movable Book Society's A Celebration of Pop-Up and Movable Books and Stand and Deliver: Engineering Sculpture into a Book Format, the catalog from the exhibition of the same name.

Thank you for such fascinating links! :) The Night Before Christmas is my favorite Sabuda... I love the all the plain white paper and the simplicity of shapes & colors - along with the seemingly magical mechanical feats.
