Cozies with Dogs

I have always enjoyed the Holly Winter dog-lovers mysteries by Susan Conant, and I just recently read and greatly enjoyed Smoky Mountain Tracks by Donna Ball featuring dog tracker Raine Stockton and her Golden Retriever, Cisco. I have already ordered the next two in this series, but i was wondering what other good dog mysteries are out there?

A Dog About Town by J.F. Englert (an LT author) and the sequel A Dog among Diplomats are good. The dog is the narrator so you get a little different point of view.

You might also try Sue Henry's Murder on the Iditarod Trail about a woman running the Iditarod with her dogs and solving murders along the way.

dulcibelle, I got A Dog About Town today at the library. It seems very intriguing.

alcottacre, I read Henry's Murder on the Iditarod Trail a few years ago and had forgotten about it...and the dogs. It was an enjoyable read.

I love the Laurien Berenson books, and would highly recommend them!

I just read Dog On It by Spencer Quinn and thought it was cute. The story is about a private eye and his faithful sidekick, Chet. Told from the dog's point of view, it made me laugh out loud in certain places since I see my own dog behave the same way Chet does.

This is not great literature or an intense mystery but more of a fun story based on a dog's insight.

The Sneaky Pie Brown mysteries are generally marketed for cat lovers, but there's an intelligent Corgi in them, as well as some other critters, if you don't mind the anthropomorphisms. (Did I spell that correctly?)

The Virginia Lanier books that all had 'Bloodhound' in the title. Very good series.

Murder Off the Books and Murder Takes the Cake by Gayle Trent both feature a private investigator with an Irish Wolf Hound. And gerald Hammond writes a series of mystery books about a dog breeder. They all have dog in the title.

The Dangerous Davies detective novels by Leslie? Thomas?

They were made into a tv series starring Peter Davison, a sometime Dr Who and Tristan Farnon and they have a good natured St Bernard but the books are 1000 times better and DD has a wolfhound or X that he basically rescued but that bullies him and makes his difficult life more difficult. None of his chums will mind the dog - all are scared of it and he is forced to take it with him on some investigations.

I recall with a chuckle, that on one train trip he has to take the dog and takes the window seat for the view but the dog has the aisle seat and when he tries to get off at his stop, the dog growls and frightened, he has to stay on the train until it reaches the end of the line, then retrace his steps...

MUCH better than the tv series, which had so many changes, it could have just been written fresh with a new detective.

The proprietor of the Charleston Tea Shop mysteries by Laura Childs is a dog owner--maybe doesn't feature prominently, but a decently supporting role.

Vivien Chein's Noodle Shop Mysteries have a dog too. Again , not a prominent part but there! And they are very enjoyable!
