Thankyou everyone who has joined. I was quite surprised when I couldn't find a pre-existing Wilde group on here. This could of course be due to my rather poor searching skills.

It would be fantastic if we could all make an effort to introduce other Wilde fans to this group, perhaps even interest them in joining and participating.

Now that we have a few members it might be nice to have some introductions, find out where people live, how and why they fell in love with Wilde and/or his works, ages etcetera...

I must be heading to bed shortly so I wont go into great detail tonight:
I am Erin; I live in the North of Sydney, Australia I am 22 and study Literature & Philosopy at Macquarie Uni. I'll put my 'Wilde' info. in a separate post another time.

I am Janis and I live in Grants Pass, Oregon, USA. I have quite a large collection of Oscar Wilde books (by him and bios/commentaries by others) and find him to be one of the most interesting writers of the 19th century.

I spend time in England & France whenever I can get there and have traveled to many "Wilde Sites" as it were. Especially poignant is seeing his grave at the Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise just outside of Paris - http://www.pere-lachaise.com/perelachaise.htm and traveling to the Clapham Junction train station where he was pelted with vegetables when he was on his way to his incarceraton.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival did a fine production of The Importance of Being Earnest in 2006 and I also saw A Woman of No Importance in London a couple of years ago at the original theatre where the first production was staged in the 1890s.

Thank you for inviting me, Lit! I love dear Oscar so very much, and I'm always on the lookout for groups, online and otherwise, in which to share my admiration. I have multiple copies of most of his works, and I'm even taking an Aestheticism course this semester! I'm spending next year abroad in England, and I intend to spend every weekend travelling around the British Isles (and possibly Western Europe) to visit significant sights. I've been to his grave before, but there's a pub in Berlin named for him that I would love to go to.

I'm Catherine in New York. I first discovered Wilde when I was in high school and watched a show about Lillie Langtry (staring Francesca Annis) on Masterpiece Theater. My Ph.D. is on 19th century British literature and I very much wanted to do a chapter on the Wilde trials, but my advisor convinced me it was currently well-trodden territory. I'm still a big fan and collect everything on him I can find; in fact, I'm one of the few people you will meet who own *both* of Stephen Fry's performances as Wilde.

I'm Melissa and have also traveled and studied in England, France, Ireland, Italy and Scotland. I discovered Wilde in high school and fell in love with his hilarious wit. I became a huge fan after reading more and more of his work and discovering not only could he write lighter plays, like Ernest, but he could also delve deep into human vanity and morality in books like Dorian Gray. It's great to find some fellow readers who love him too.

I am Wilum Hopfrog Pugmire, Esq., and am a long-time Wilde fan. I have paid homage to Wilde in some of my weird fiction and poetry, and in my book UNCOMMON PLACES I have a prose-poem/vignette sequence entitled "In Memoriam:Oscar Wilde," in which I play on various themes found in Wilde's Works. I hope one day to write an entire collection inspir'd by his poetry & prose.
