I am interested to know who in this group is hosting a current book challenge on their blog.

I am hosting my first challenge on Rose City Reader right now: Battle of the Prizes. I am excited about it, but it also makes me interested to know what other current challenges belong to my fellow LT bloggers.

I'm hosting a Dewey Decimal Reading Challenge on my site. The point of it is to read 1 book from each Dewey century in the course of a year. There's a link to it on my site,

I've just posted the rules for my first challenge: the Pre-Printing Press Challenge.

The goal is to read a number of books that predate the printing press.

3> I host the Really Old Classics challenge. details here
http://reviews.rebeccareid.com/really-old-classics-challenge/

It ends July 31. I may wait until January to do next year's. It was an off-year challenge, and I think maybe a January-December time frame would be better.

For my challenge, "Really Old Classics" is supposed to be pre-1600s, which is kind of a wishy-washy date. I was thinking pre-Shakespeare-ish. "Printing press" is probably easier to define. Nice thinking!

1> I see your challenge, and you've tempted me! But I just can't join another right now. I'm starting to pressure myself with them. I'm not currently reading the Nat'l Book Award winners "list" but I love that list and I'm probably going to end up adding some to my list for this year.

I decided to host two James Patterson reading challenges on my blog.

One is for any book written by Patterson. If you're interested, check
out the details and sign up at
http://socratesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2009/08/james-patterson-reading-challeng...

The second one is for catching up on his Women's Murder Club series.
For details...

You can be part of both challenges. Any books read as part of the WMC
challenge can also count towards the Patterson challenge. Overlapping
challenge books is permitted!

I left it open-ended, because there are so many books.

I have an idea for a challenge, but don't know how to go about getting people to join
Do I setup a separate blog for it?
keep it on my sidebar?
do I have a prize at the end?
how do you do it?

1) You do not need to do a separate blog. I didn't for the Battle of the Prizes challenge and many (most?) challenges are hosted right on you same, regular blog. But rebeccareid (see #4 above) does a great job of creating separate blogs for her challenges. Your choice.

2) Yes, put a button on your sidebar, so people can find your challenge quickly.

3) Prizes are up to you. I don't do many challenges, so I do not know the typical practice, but none of the challenges I have participated in had prizes. I didn't do a prize with mine, although I had good intentions to do so. I just never got around to adding it.

4) All I did (and I am not necessarily a good example, but I got about a dozen people to participate, which I was thrilled with) was post the challenge on Rose City Reader and also on A Novel Challenge.

Good luck! What is your challenge going to be??????

I had thought about a supplemental challenge for the 101010 challenge since so many people were worried about having to read 100 books so still having 10 categories this challenge would be for 20 books.

Here's is the challenge that I want to put on my blog....I call it 2010 Challenge Choose a book by it's title

Here's how it would work. 20 books total.
Chose 10 categories from the Title Categories and read 2 books in each thereby doing 20 books, 10 categories --- a true 20---10 challenge.
OR --- chose 20 categories from the list and read 1 book (b> 20---1---0 again 2010 challenge.

For those that only want a few books, they read 20.
There are 30 TITLE categories.

Are you saying these are the categories that you are laying out for the challenge? OR do participants get to choose their own categories?

Most people who do a blog challenge set it up using Mr. Linky, but I don't know how it works, who monitors it, or how everyone tracks it.
