So what livejournal book communities are you in, and what are they for? I'm in:

Keeping track of what you read:
15000pages, 50bookchallenge

General books/reading:
avidreaders, booktards, readabook, bookwyrmmes

Authors:
asimovians, harlan_ellison, mckinleyrocks, tortall (Tamora Pierce), youngwizards (Diane Duane)

F/SF:
epicfantasy, fantasy_is_lit, fantasyclassics, fantasyfans, sci_femmes, sf_book_reviews, ya_f_sf

Finding lost books:
whatwasthatbook

Some of them are totally inactive, sadly, but many of them range from moderately to extremely active and I've found lots of new reading material through them.

Only one I'm a part of is theshortlist, which is basically a book review group that is relatively quiet.

2. ReadPlease: http://community.livejournal.com/readplease/

You might want to check out Booklisters. It's a pretty swanky discussion group: http://www.livejournal.com/community/booklisters

I'm more of a series/author/fandom groupee. LJ and LT are the only places I connect to other fans, however.

Patrick O'Brian: Aubrey-Maturin - obriansnavy, hms_surprise
Fandom: mandc100, mandc_icons,
Age of Sail Assorted - despatches, kiss_me_hardy

Dorothy L Sayers: Lord Peter Wimsey - reading_wimsey, talboys
Laurie R King: Mary Russell - dammit_holmes
Arthur Conan Doyle: Sherlock Holmes -221b_bakerst

Fantasy: epicfantasy, fantasyfans (these often have overlap)
Lord of the Rings: readthebook - this is specifically dedicated to reading the Lord of the Rings, and concentrating on the text rather than the movies. I'm afraid it's a bit dead, which is such a pity.
Naomi Novik: Temeraire - temeraire_fans, the_covert

Hello,

I'm a writer (nearly unpublished) as well as an avid reader. The communities I'm in that relate most directly to my book collection and writing are: (ordered by LJ, a paste my user page and edited out those communities that aren't (as directly) related:

flannelpjbooks
furryreaders
furrywriters
sfandf_writers
sfwriters
write_away
write_impromptu

I mostly lurk there, though.

Cheers,
Blackfeather (on LJ as well as LT).

opalcity (my other community)
biopunk (my other other community)
arrakis
bprd
comicbooklovers
dc_universe
doctorwho
gene_wolfe
srd_love

Some of these are only slightly literary.

hi! I'm a lurky member of book crossing and the library thing communities on Live Journal. One of the things I like about LJ is that I filter out all my communites so I can keep up with my friends on LJ.. and then I end up not reading the communities very often! (bad habit on my part).

I have only recently joined LT and before that I've been a member of Bookcrossing but I haven't had much luck finding any books in my area.. and have only book-crossed a couple times..

'smeeeko' on LJ

I'm Waywind on LiveJournal, and I made a long list of book discussion communities that I'd found on LiveJournal here: http://community.livejournal.com/t_o_book_club/727.html I've got them sorted by topic! There are some other non-book-related topics listed on there, too, but I'd managed to find quite a lot of book talk groups.

One of my LJ friends runs bibliophyles, a book of the month community with a focus on classic literature. This month's book is Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.

I'm cherishthepast on LJ, by the way.

Gay Bookclub is a community I like, which hasn't been mentioned yet. It is primarily a bunch of review postings about GLBT-themed books. I also read several author's blogs on lj or through RSS feeds on lj.

I'm in 50bookchallenge and whatwasthatbook. 50bookchallenge is very active, but there isn't really a whole lot of discussion of the books.

whatwasthatbook has been very helpful in finding lost titles that I'd read and forgotten about. I've been able to add them to my library here. Although, I no longer own the books, it helps me to keep from buying a book I've already read, and forgotten about.

#21 trishtrash - thanks for pointing out rolandofgilead to me, I'm reading (intermitently) the Dark Tower series now and didn't even know this community existed.

I make icons and post to book_icons frequently under my icon journal crymeariver_.
