It could be nice to have a mark all as read in the talk tab.
I wanted to watch this group so I selected to watch it. When I went to the "my groups" link I realized I had a page and a half of old topics with unread comments I wasn't interested in reading the history of suggested site improvements and got bored of clicking through to mark them all as read so I stopped watching the group. Mark it up as lazy but it I think it would be nice to have a mark all as read for our conversations. This would also be nice in the “my books” section, it’s nice to see where my books are being discussed but I generally don’t want to read the topics but I click them anyway to get rid of the unread from my list.

Yes having something like this would be useful. Particularly with this message board since some of the issues have already been resolved.

Of course clicking on the x on the far right of uninteresting and/or inactive topics will send them to the 'ignore this' section of Your Groups.

I would find "mark all as read" a useful feature, too. There are some topics that I don't want to ignore forever ... I simply want to mark what's there *right now* as read. Then I can see what's added from that point onwards.

As a new member of LibraryThing, let me float this request back to the top. Almost every other discussion board that I watch or participate in has a "mark all messages as read" feature.

As long as we're at it, it would also be nice to have a "mark all messages to here as read" feature instead of assuming that all messages in a thread have been read in one sitting.

Bumping rather than starting a whole new thread. I actually found myself thinking "hmm, should I really join that group? It'll just clutter up my talk groups listing with a bunch of unread crap."

Thank you for starting that thread. A feature like this had been in my mind for a long time.
>6 brewergirl:
I agree completely
Additonally I would wish a button for each topic to mark as read.

Bump?

>12 IrrationalDM: others can probably explain this better.
a bump- is to type anything- (often the word bump) - which causes the topic/post to appear back at the top- where others can see it and be reminded of its existence- with the hope that it might garner further comment

But we can mark as "read to here" under "More". Is that what >12 IrrationalDM: is asking for?

>16 krazy4katz: No, they want to be able to mark all threads in a group or in Talk as read with a single click.

Another vote for this. And a similar feature for the Messages area (unless I've overlooked it). Some kind of system reset set all my Messages to unread, and I had to page through them multiple times to clear the flags.

I had my most recent dozen-plus messages turn up as notifications this morning, although I had read them over the prior months as they appeared. I deleted a few, but I still have eight that are impertinently demanding my attention in the header bar wherever I go on the site.

>19 paradoxosalpha: There's actually a simple solution for Messages it turns out, see this post: https://www.librarything.com/topic/351804#8174734
So it's just in discussion groups that a Mark All Read is really needed.
