Giving away some books

I've given some how-to and easy pattern books to friends who want to learn to knit.

I've been looking for a knitting group to unload the rest on--or at least give them a stab at some of the material.

Anybody know of charities that might take these?

A knitting group would be ideal, if you could find one. Some yarn shops provide meeting space for knitting groups. My local yarn shop has a basket of knitting magazine back issues that customers can borrow; maybe other yarn shops have a similar service. Depending on where you live, you might find a suitable group in Debbie Stoller's book Stitch 'N Bitch Nation, which has information about some of the knitting groups around the country (on the green pages).

Some public libraries might accept donated magazines for resale to patrons, or they might have a magazine exchange.

Maybe a senior citizens group or agency, or an assisted-living home might be able to use these materials?

Or a teen services center? Local 4H office?

I belong to the Cincinnati Weaver's Guild which is really more like a fiber artists' guild and they maintain a library for members - maybe you have something similar near you that would appreciate a donation?

My library has a once yearly yard sale, which is usually in the summer, and accepts donations for that. Maybe your library does the same? I found my own yardsale didn't result in many sales of craft and knitting patterns, because nobody wants to sift through hundreds of leaves of paper in the 100 degree heat.

You could swap them for yarn or whatever over at Knitty.

There seems to be problems like that periodically, and people have been complaining about not getting responses to their e-mails since November. You could try this person: morgsarah at gmail dot com, but I wouldn't expect an answer until after Christmas.

I'm sorry I haven't listed yet. Both parents have had serious health issues over the holidays, in and out of hospitals, etc. I will try to post them within January, I hope.

the twin cities (where i live) has a knitting guild that would love stuff like that. maybe your city/town has one too? libraries definitely take them.

I just got new bookcases and now have space for more knitting books! To be honest, there are few I own that I would part with.
