I think we need a group pic to liven things up. Anybody have a favorite disaster they would like to nominate?

Of course you could find many photos from Katrina, but it doesn't seem right to use photos of people on rooftops for that purpose. Maybe just the water going over the levees?
There are dramatic satellite photos of the 1993 floods on the Mississippi.
I think my favorite disaster photos, for the sheer human arrogance, would have to be the failure of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, aka "Galloping Gertie". More images here.
Washington State has a bit of a problem with bridges. They also sunk the Mercer Island Floating Bridge and the Hood Canal Bridge.
There are amazing photos from the 1995 Hanshin (Kobe) earthquake where huge multi-story office buildings fell over, while remaining nearly intact!
The USGS has huge collections of natural hazard photos, most of them in the public domain.

My first thought was the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I'm fairly certain there were no fatalities, so we can all look at a picture of it without feeling too bad.

I was thinking something more historic like Pompeii, Krakatoa, the Titanic or the 1900 Galveston hurricane, something far enough in the past that nobody living has first hand experience.

Ok then, how about Santorini? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santorini#Volcanic_eruption

Good one! There's a painting used in the cover art of Susan Sontag's The Volcano Lover showing a man doffing his hat in awe of the eruption (Etna I think). Anyone know this picture?
Or what about The Hindenburg?

I put the one that's now showing together from several pics I found on the Internet. What do you think? Let me know honestly. I had fun putting it together, but that doesn't make it the right logo for us as a group.
I included the Hindenburg, Cocoanut Grove, Ana Krakatoa (since there are no photos of Krakatoa), Galloping Gertie, the Titanic, and the Dust Bowl. Are there other faves you'd like me to work into the graphic? Is there anything there that's recent enough to be in poor taste and that I should remove?

Love the collage! I have been offline for 3+ weeks (spent the holidays with family in an area with VERY slow dial-up service), so didn't see this until now.
