computer's controlled by child's brain

I can not remember the name of this book but I was recently telling my son about it and he actually said "that sounds cool, do you still have it". It is very hard to get him interested in any book, so.... PLEASE HELP!

This kid goes to a new school and the school was supposedly haunted BUT in fact the kids that "DIED" really had their brains hooked up to a computer. The kids really staged their deaths and their brains were taken away from their bodies and hooked up to a computer. One of the kids that died sent his mom an email and his brother knew that his brain was really set up to the computer. I think the brother planned to murder his parents while they were away playing tennis or actually murdered them. (not sure) There was also some weird thing with an elevator in the dorm house, and a little girl that was scared of the steps that led to the beach. In the end the boy found the lab where the brains and computers where.

i've read that ..i don't own it, so it's probably in the YA or kids section of our local library, which isn't very large. When i return my current books i'll give a scan. I'm sure we checked it out when our son was ~ 5-6th grade. (adam's a couple of years out of college..so my memory is slippery on authors/titles)
