Personal Journals entered into LT, Yea or Nea?

I have been considering entering my personal journals into LT. I am not really sure about this. I have the books shelved in my library, why shouldn't I enter them into LT? I mean 1/3 of what I use LT for is having a list of my books so I can find them. So why not catalog my journals?

On the other hand, they haven't been published and never will be published. I am sure no one else will have them. If LT is about connecting people through their books, no one will be connected to me through these books? So why catalog them?

So personal journal seem like the ultimate unique book. should I catalog them or not? What does the group think?

That's only one aspect of LT, and for many people it is a small or even totally unimportant aspect. If you want to catalog what's on your shelves, go for it.

Yea, but I have bookends and a bust of Pallas* on my shelves. I'm not sure how or should catalog that. Where is the line?

*One of the Titans. Pallas is the son of Crius and Eurybia and husband of Styx. Pallas is the father of Zelus, Nike, Cratos and Bia. He is also occasionally considered the father of Eos. Also a favored perching place for ravens.

There is a group dedicated to bookends, so cataloging them can't be too far off.

I am seriously leaning toward cataloging them. Mostly based on the idea that a library would collect and hold journals, letters and other none published materials of little know people, for historic value alone.

So the next point is, how to do it correctly. Within Library thing I seriously don't want to get hammer for having my own author page, not really being a published author. Beside I would like to maintain a level of anonymity. So I catalog the Journal without an author or publisher etc. Does that action serious undermine the data structure of LT? Or is there a dummy author I and others could use? Say "Self" which could then be used to look at everyone who has journals entered. I would like to know who has journals. I would like to connect with other journal writers. In addition I have a box of letters written to me. I would like to catalog them as well.

So does anyone have examples of odd things they have cataloged and how they did it? Serious bookend, sculpture or Cats?

Is there a better group to discuss this in?

You can leave the author name blank. There are already 000s of works without an author. it won't break LT by doing so.

Were I in your position I'd use my own name, or more likely my username. Self is already rather popular.

There appear to be three books that are written by Self. Two which are actual written by the person cataloging them.
I also found an interesting http://www.librarything.com/author/byme entry. This user rohitkhanna appear to be cataloging article they have written themselves.

I like a solution that will allow everyone who writes personal journal to link up. So "Self (unpublished journal)" looks like a really good solution. This would allow "Self (unpublished letters)".

I have found a very interesting book Record - Mrs. A. L. Pomeroy. It is not a personal journal but close enough. No one seems to mind it.

I purchased two copies of personal diaries at a garage sale and both are in my library. I say definately catalog them. It's your library, and your relatives might be interested in finding them (unless you destroy them).

These are so interesting.

No, I don't have her name (yet). I knew she was this boy's mother, due to some events in the diary that matched up, and the family verified they were from the same household.

I'm sure with a small amount of detective work I can find her name; but she never signed her diary. :(

I've got bunches of my personal diaries (journals) tucked away. I hadn't even thought of cataloging them -- but what a good idea.
