I have a question. I'm all for adding interesting trivia into the comments field for each work, I think it makes it a really interesting library. When it comes to just copying verbatim from, for example, the Beacon database and citing them as the source, are we allowed to do this or is this a copyright violation? If we're allowed, then I'm happy to do it but I don't know enough to know whether that's a no-no. I know you're not allowed to put copyright data in the reviews field ....

Yeah...I'm not so sure about this issue either. Copyright can get pretty nasty pretty quickly. However, I do know that you can't copyright the fact itself (at least in the USA), but you can copyright how the fact is expressed.

I'm guessing we should probably avoid copy/pasting the trivia directly. Stating it in our own words should be okay, I think.

Restating should avoid us even having to worry about it. Of course, quotes that are indicated as such are a long-time recognized fair use.

That's what I thought Phoenix. So I guess that if we state any trivia in our own words we can go ahead and start adding?

By the way, we're at 201! Wayhey! Book milestone party!

ETA and lquilter! I posted at the same time...

Yup, go for it!

By the way, we're at 201!

Huh...how did we manage that...

We have a brilliant and industrious communal brain!

Must say, this is a great idea of yours Phoenix. I've learnt loads that I didn't know today. I'm now driving my nearest and dearest mad with banned book trivia.

I'm going to hold off entering any more though - don't want all the additional books to suddenly disappear.....

Wow - you are really going at it! I am at work and sneaking peeks occasionally, but really can not work on this during the day.

Re the copyright issue - you could use just a few words, and then link to the source. User "Noisy" has a pretty nice tutorial on the profile page, with helpful hints for HTML as implemented on LT.

I've gotten rid of the straight quotes from the Beacon database. Let me know if there are any objections to the current info.

Personally, I'd like to see some info in Comments. With a lot of recent American books, many of the users may know the book's subject and who/why objections were raised, but there are plenty that I'm clueless about.
