List Lists in this List

I recently read a Sunday Salon blog that was about (yes, another book list!) The EW 100 New Classics book list. My first instict was to scream! Yet another standard to which I'll never match up! We book listers must be masochistic, that's all I can say.

My second thought, however, was how could we have a one-stop shopping list of The Lists? and A-ha! this group was born.

So if you find a book list on your reading journey, post a new thread with it and share it with the world!

No, you don't understand. I have over 50 lists I can contribute... I may never leave the group. I don't even know where to start. The awful part will be touchstones - which I may skip in some places as just too awful to think about.

Yay! Major Contributor! I found out about the Touchstones, too. When I pasted the EW 100 list then put the brackets, the Ts system just about overloaded. I was actually afraid I might break it and crash LT! LOL

Nooooo! I've just got the end in sight with my spreadsheet detailing all the major prizes and 1001 List (which I will put up online for anyone to download once I'm done - I'm anal, it has colours and hyperlinks!) ..... and yet one more list appears. That's it! I'm drawing the line! No more, I say!

..... But it's such a good list ..... so maybe I'll add it ..... and draw the line after it ..... I'm not addicted ...... I can quit at any time ...... (wanders off to corner of room, counting books in head and shaking quietly.....)

So yeah, what we need is to upload all our spreadsheet lists for all of us to download...

I think nearly every year since 1900 has been covered for bestsellers in the United States (each year should have at least 10 fiction and 10 non-fiction).

Nearly all the Work Touchstones got obliterated in the upgrade of about a month ago. Ten pairs of Touchstones for work and author is all about the sytem can handle without getting excessivle jittery.

Yes, I too am a compulsive list reader -- in fact, my blog (Rose City Reader) is tag-lined just that, "Book notes from a compulsive 'list' reader." So I am afraid but joyful about being sucked into this group! I currently have 100 lists on listsofbests.com, although I think that 2 or 3 of them are not book lists, so that shows some restraint. ;-)

#7 - ListsofBests is one of my favorite websites!! I have 32 lists going, most of them books, which is probably ridiculous. I'll never be able to read all of them, but I will have fun trying.

I'm generally not too critical about the lists. I figure somebody thought they were a great book, so I am usually willing to give them a try.

I have challenges that I do for myself, but I'm not sure if you'd count all of them as "lists". For example, I'm trying to read more geographically diverse, so I have a spreadsheet of the countries (with separate sheets for the 50 US states, Canadian provinces, and English counties, since those are by far the countries from which I read the most authors...). It does help me because then I get the pleasure of filling in a space and seeing my tally go up after I've read a book! Already 6 different countries (from 3 different continents/areas) in 2009!

I would list the spreadsheet for people to have, but I don't have a website, so I'm not sure how I would get it to you. If you want it and have an email I can email it to you, just PM me...

I also am doing the 1001 Books list (the most avidly) and the Time magazine All-Time Top 100 Novels list. I am probably going to add the EW list. They overlap a lot, but where they don't, I do think some of the books are important works that the editors of the other lists ignored/forgot/underestimated.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned 501 Must-Read Books. It's nothing too fancy, I picked it up at Borders for a song. But, hey, obsessive compulsive list collecting is obsessive compulsive list collecting. Am I right or what? I wonder if it's going to come down to me entering it all... shudder. I'll take one for the team if need be!
