Proofreaders Needed for Rare Books

People should be aware that this poster is digitizing, and making available, works that are still under copyright.

The poster started another thread, and when he was called out about the copyright violations, he deleted all his messages in that thread and started this one.

If he is downloading them, they are already available is some digital form. If they need this person to save them, I'm quite happy to leave them on the discard pile.

I remember one year that was a big Johann Strauß, Sohn year. Almost every concert in Vienna that year included some Strauß waltz that hadn't been heard in a long time. Generally, they haven't been heard again since, for good reason. Even good composers and authors have works that don't make it. And there are a lot of people now as then, whose works aren't worth reading.

That someone else is violating copyright doesn't make it okay for the OP to do it, too.

>4 lilithcat: I think it was a comment about the fact that if OP is working off a digitized copy, they are not really digitizing books (rare or not) - the books are already digitized - they are cleaning up someone else's digitization. So the whole premise of the project is kinda... wonky. And that is before we even look into copyright and the very weird understanding of that concept by someone who "retired from well over a half-century in the printing industry".

Oh and now they've flounced due to the bad press...

But guess what will happen if he tries again.
