And the “review” section as a place to describe (only) the book’s physical condition.
I’ve noted a few instances of this. It strikes me as spammy.

Mark them as non-review - that is why we have the flags.
So what is your "Recommended Improvement" or did you pick the wrong group?

>2 AnnieMod: I want to know if this is a legitimate use of the personal section of LT or whether the whole thing is a form of spam. All the reviews have been flagged for years. What difference does that make?

It is how this member uses the site -- as long as they do not sell on LT itself, it is not against the rules to use LT for inventory purposes. The non-reviews are annoying but we cannot do anything about them besides flagging them as Not a review. See https://www.librarything.com/organizations which specifically states: "Booksellers. Booksellers may list books, but not use LibraryThing to sell books. They are strictly forbidden from soliciting other LibraryThing members. Suggested uses include tracking staff picks, posting events and socializing with neighbors.". Now, if they have a personal and not an organizational account, maybe LT can nudge them to change but that won't solve the issue of having the reviews or of the books being here.
PS: When you have questions like that, it is better to post them in https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/902/Talk-about-LibraryThing (Talk About LT) and not in the "Recommend Site Improvements" group - this group here is really for recommending and/or asking for new site features and/or changes in existing ones. Thus the end of my comment above :)
