I find there's slightly different behavior behind the LibraryThing web version and apps.
If, for example, I add a book of the form "The Mumble", the app will organize this under the first letter of the first word after the "The" and mark it as a manual sorting. However, for the life of me, I don't see the manual/automatic sorting option on the web version....only on the iPhone/iPad app.
Am I looking in the wrong place on the web when I look at one of my books?

On the web version, look on the edit screen - there is a drop down after the title. That’s where you specify which character you want to start sorting from - so you set it to 5 for titles starting with The.
The UI on the mobile version is new - it had not been rolled everywhere. Behind the scenes, it sets the same field you can set directly on the web version.
