I think I'm ready to try

Hello,

I think I'm ready to try. I want to make certain, that I can do this.

#1 - I dont understand the tickers. - how they work- where they come from - are they required.

#2 - does a book on your shelf that is re-read 50 years later- count as a root?

thank you

Hi Egbertina, welcome to the ROOTers.

@ 1: Here you can read how to make a ticker

https://www.librarything.nl/topic/348514#n8065993

@ 2: You can make your own rules.

My rule is books and e-books are ROOTs when they have been on my shelves or reader for more than 4 months.

Some count everything before January 1 as ROOTs. And a re-read can be a ROOT too.

>8 connie53: i hadn't read any roots for a couple of weeks and forgot how to work the ticker - but i finally remembered. my progress is greatly hindered by chaotic circumstance and my own little rabbit trails.

Hi Egbertina. I hope the chaotic circumstances are settling and you are having some peace of mind.

>10 connie53: Thank you for asking. Some chaos is for eternity in this situation. Meanwhile Ive been working, too. Still, with the lack of sleep Ive been getting close to one book a day. Not always roots; but have managed quite a few roots this month. I keep thinking once I get to the Newbery Honor books of the 1940's - they will be easier to read- but- perhaps I kid myself.

I have enjoyed seeing your posts of reading. Especially, the DeWaal (spelling?) I dont dare add it yet, but perhaps by next year.

>11 EGBERTINA: It's 'de Waal' as a Dutch surname. Frans de Waal is Dutch-American. He is born in the Netherlands in a town (Den Bosch) that is situated at about an hour drive from where I loive.

ROOTs or no ROOTs, reading whatever is the most important.

>12 connie53: De Waal was quoted a lot and I think we viewed films, too, many years ago when I took a class in primatology.
