A young married couple is looking for a house: He needs an address in a business area while she wants to live in a posh residential area. They compromise by finding a house bordering on both areas with two entrance doors(?) and two different street addresses. Confuse acquaintances into believing they can actually afford to run two establishments.
Read it in English, I think the story was set in a US town. It was a funny-ish story, light-hearted, written in early 20th century / public domain I guess. I have a feeling I actually _listened_ to this story on LibriVox, but cannot find it again.
Does this sound familiar to anybody?

I've just found it after all: "Their Colonial Villa" by Charles Barnard

Ooh, the entire issue it appears in is on Project Gutenberg! I definitely plan to check it out!

I've just re-read it. Some of the details were different I'd misremembered, still, it was quite funny.
I adore the LibriVox anthologies, they've introduced me to many an author I'd have never otherwise come across. Plus, I can listen to them on my phone while doing chores.
