Harry is a loner. I don't think he's capable of giving enough of himself, emotionally, to ever be a good relationship risjk.

From reading this he’s only been gone something like a week so it does look like he has moved on quickly but as Olivermagnus said Harry struggles to develop and maintain relationships.

I completely misunderstood this question. I was thinking about Sylvia leaving him. In J. Edgar's case, one week seems a little early to dump your mentor.

It seemed a bit early for Edgar to be switching his allegiance so completely to a new partner; theoretically, Bosch could be back pretty soon if he decided to play nice with the psychologist.

Harry has never wanted a partner...he likes the guys he works with, but he doesn't really want to work WITH them. He has always from the first book, liked working alone, partly because there is no one to rein him in or report him when he does stupid things. I think J Edgar is distancing himself rather than actually leaving Harry.

If Edgar is the guy I am thinking of he gave Harry grief inThe Concrete Blonde so ties could be loosening here.

>8 Maura49: Edgar has given Harry grief in all the previous books. It's almost as if he may be jealous of him in some ways.

The Los Angeles Police are not in the best shape following the Rodney King riots. It appears everyone is looking to cover their own backs so his partner moving on is the best political move for him.

Edgar needs to do what he can to save his job. Harry is out at the moment so Edgar needs to work with whomever gets assigned as his partner. However, I did expect Edgar to ultimately help Harry in the end.

I thought he cut ties too quickly. But was glad that Edgar did some back-peddling and looked into Fox for him.

>11 bhabeck: Agreed. Edgar knows he's probably under the gun and probably has sensed Harry's emotional distance so he's doing what he can to keep his job and stop the scrutiny. Then >12 bluebird_: his conscience got to him and he looked into Fox for Harry.
