Not much information on the translator's background, but if the publisher/translator is responsible for Prince Narcissus, I will follow and tentatively evangelize. Those of you who wished for and missed reasonably priced copies of Clemente Palma's short stories will find both collections, as well as a translation of Froylan Turcios' novel, El Vampiro here:

There are other interesting titles to grab up, and pending.

Thanks for posting, both for the new (to me) press and authors / works. I'd love to read something before purchasing, but given these are newly translated it would appear I won't have an option unless the press itself posts excerpts.

I don't read Spanish / Portuguese, but could wrestle my way through German so will look for Paul Madsack stories online. Given he's described as a Nazi sympathiser, it may be difficult, not having the literary cred of a Benn or Heidegger.

Sad thing about those named, that cred came, at least for the latter of the 2, after having joined the national socialist party twice and abetted or at least cheered on the dismissal of his better/mentor (sleazily, if passively, usurping his chair, if I recall correctly). I had never heard of Madsack prior to finding SPP's site; his topic is pretty standard for the times. Palma was an accomplished bastard himself - but some of the stories are quite good. No idea if Madsack matches up with that aspect of Palma.

It isn't likely that any of the titles or their authors are going to be undertaken by names like M. Jull Costa, etc. (I have badgered small presses for years). That said, there is a copy of Sphinx due for publication later this year by the MLA - so options on that one. I am very tentative with some of the "translations" put out by a prolific translator associated with the press that published the translation of Prince Narcisse, though, as I mentioned, I found that book's translation, by the WPP translator, quite readable.

I have read Shawn Garrett's translation of 'Prince Narcissus' and on the basis of that book (and a few emails with him) I imagine that if he translated it (Narcissus is highly recommended!) it is probably of interest.
Thanks for the heads up on this press!

>4 Siderealpress: Again, I concur. I ordered extras of Narcisse for friends. No idea/response as to whether Madsack made it to press or not. Overjoyed in my way to see the Turcios at long last englished.

Just for awareness: The Madsack novel should be up to bat soon, and a second to follow, perhaps.

Dear all,

a few people have had issues with some books from this press in that the margins are very tight meaning the page count is very low.

If you have one of those copies Shawn will replace it for you with a better-margined version. Drop him a line via the contact section of the Strange Ports website, ie an email to:

He'll sort you out!
