Journalist, activist, and ex-husband of singer Joan Baez, David Harris died February 6 at the age of 76. US politician James Abourezk died February 24 at the age of 92. He wrote Advise & Dissent: Memoirs of South Dakota and the U.S. Senate and co-wrote Through different eyes : two leading Americans, a Jew and an Arab, debate.

Film producer Walter Mirisch died February 25 at the age of 101. He wrote I Thought We were Making Movies, not History.

Former MP Lady Betty Boothroyd died February 26 at the age of 93. Her memoir was called Betty Boothroyd: The Autobiography.

She stepped down in 2000 and became a life peer in 2001, taking a seat in the House of Lords (life peerages are appointments, mostly on political lines although some peers choose to be independent from political parties - cross-benchers - not elected). Many in the House of Lords are former elected MPs and other politicians, though there are also business people and others with a leading role in public life.
