Consensus Press Pricing Poll

These questions will help determine the price range that members are comfortable with for the first Consensus Press title. Your answers are appreciated!

Naturally what you are willing to pay will be shaped by which title wins and how it is executed, but for this poll please vote as though the winning book is a reasonably desirable one to you.

Reinstated on Griffin's recommendation

Interesting tally so far. About as expected. I think this is especially relevant to the Canticles, which will have (by far) the highest printing cost. It may be worth being economical wherever possible — Mohawk superfine rather than mouldmade, a smaller book size, a standard cloth etc. — to stay competitive.

>5 grifgon: It does reflect my concern that a fairly slight majority (the 500-1k range) could price out a large number of members (the under 500 range).

I think that's worth both voters and proposal authors taking into consideration, since they very well could get a pricier proposal approved by a majority, but it would likely have a lot fewer purchasers.

I'd personally much rather see a lavish 500 dollar Basho or Mael Duin, than a stripped down 500 dollar Canticle.

"Lavish" rarely fits my personal aesthetic, so regardless of the work length I'll be voting away from that.

>7 ambyrglow: That was more a pushback against the idea of Mohawk superfine and a standard book cloth. I don't mean an over-the-top "lavish" aesthetic as much as having the edition done to the finest extent possible, rather than the most basic.

For me, the answers to these polls would ultimatley depend on the final title chosen. I would be more inclined to pay a premium for Máel Dúin or Sinuhe than I would for A Canticle for Leibowitz.

>9 SyllicSpell: Same. In fact, if A Canticle for Leibowitz wins and ends up being $1K or more, I will most likely pass and drop out of the group. Paying that much for the textual equivalent of The Gods Must Be Crazy is simply not something I would do.

A consideration for me is how we are able to pay. If I could use PayPal and spread my payments over 6 months, I would be more likely to approve a costlier proposal.
