I've been looking for an affordable copy of this 3-volume edition of Chaucer's poem, and recently found one, which I just received in the mail. EP can certainly make a spectacular tome when it wants to. The book is a reproduction (facsimile?) of the Medici Society 1913 edition, illustrated by W. Russell Flint. The EP edition has red leather with gold-stamped title and images on the cover. Heavy Mohawk superfine paper. The text reproduction, which copies the original exactly, is clean and dark with an attractive, readable font. The Flint illustrations, often gorgeously erotic, are presented in 36 tipped-in plates (12 per volume) with a transparent page over each one quoting a passage from the part of the story being illustrated.
To my knowledge, EP has three deluxe editions of Chaucer, but this is the one I wanted. The 2016 facsimile of the Urry Edition from 1721 looks beautiful, and includes the complete works, but for that reason has small font and a crowded text arrangement. And the reproduction of William Morris's Kelmscott Press 1896 edition is visually magnificent, but quite challenging to use for reading. The 2011 edition is three volumes, so not too heavy to hold, with the original Middle English in a large, clean font. Perfect!
