Viesti ryhmäsi ylläpitäjältäOkay, so this group has turned into... something new through the covid pandemic and political unrest affecting schools. That makes sense. But it also means that it also looks like it increasingly needs some serious administration attention.
I'm going to write up my thoughts quickly and edit as needed. This isn't how I like to introduce changes in a group, but we're only at the start of a bunch of changes. Very little has been decided. Here we go....
Not too long ago, the LibraryThing team expanded the roles of group admins. Manga and Anime Addicts (MAA) was one of the last active groups on LibraryThing. Several people applied or made suggestions for who the admin(s) should be. The last I heard, a few were offered the position, with the intention that the new admins would work as a team to keep our eyes on the group.
I was one of the people offered to administrate here. Unfortunately, I haven't heard from the others.
That's unfortunate because there's been behavior in this group's Talk that needs to be acknowledge by people with the Administer buttons. I don't want to the only one drawing the lines and setting up healthy expectations in the group.
But as the moment someone needs to, let's go over a few major points.
--> Personal attacks are unacceptable. Those are against LT's terms of service. (See "Social features: Freedom of discussion and personal attacks" below the privacy notice.)
I'm old compared to many of the current MAA members and can't always determine what's meant as a personal attack by teens. Other comments are extremely obvious. What matters is what you think it is. When you see a personal attack in Talk, in this group or elsewhere, then please click on "More" below the message to flag it.
Every LT member has the ability to flag message. Do not abuse it; follow the instructions. Tim and the rest of the LT team are known to kick out people who are obviously acting in bad faith on this site. But also, please don't be afraid to report what looks to you as abuse. Mistakes can be counter-flagged just as easily. Four or standing flags (which means flags from at least four accounts) delete the post, which helps them keep this site a decent place for communication.
--> Doxxing and everything like it is extremely unacceptable. Don't share a member's phone number, their school's address, their work supervisor's email, or whatever. Sharing another member's contact information or any details about their personal lives without permission is hostile. The post might be breaking laws or not; either way, it's against the terms of service.
Every LT member has the ability to privately message members of the LT team. Go ahead and reach out to them if you see doxxing or more direct threats.
--> This group is for talking about manga and anime. Discussions go off topic—that's fine—but should mostly center around stuff that's at least looks like manga and anime. Interrupting with a flood of nonsense makes finding on-topic discussion harder, wastes storage space, and can make loading the page harder for no good reason. Create a new topic if you have something related to the group to say. To goof around with random words, create a new group (after looking again at the TOS) or a Discord server or something.
One way or another, I expect there will be a cleanup of this group soon. I'm going to wait a little longer to see what the admin situation will look like. In the meantime, take a look at your own messages and see if maybe want to edit them.Admins can hide or remove a stream of "This message has been deleted by its author" if that helps. (ETA: All that does is change the deletion message. Sorry.)

I just want you all to know what this looks like on the admin side.
What kind of group is this?
*Discussion group
Who can join?
*Anyone can join
Who can see group discussions?
*Anyone
Who can post to group discussions?
*Only group members
That last one has changed. Anyone signed up with LibraryThing can join without approval, but as of today, you have to click the button to join before posting.

I see- Well first of all things CONGRATS!!! Even though I was hoping to be admin I'm glad we have someone who has been around for a while. If you could also put something about race and online dating that would be great :D

>3 Covid_Karin: Thank you! You might still become an admin. Let's talk a bit in private messages, if you don't mind.
>4 Drystol: There's a bunch of guidelines to be worked out.
Something about race... like, don't make assumptions about the race of another group member, racist "jokes" aren't okay, slurs aren't acceptable when they're used for characters or creators (and are against the site's TOS when used for LT members),...?
I'm... trying to get my mind about this being used as a dating site. Maybe that shouldn't be surprising, but... how... is this happening? Are people using PMs? Is this out in the open in Talk?
My first thoughts about dating here is that it doesn't matter if couples or whatever are talking about relationship stuff on their own profiles. Using the forums for planning dates or sexting is not okay. And no should be soliciting others here; that quickly gets gross. No one should have to worry about creepy messages on a book cataloguing site.
This site isn't Tinder, Grindr, or anything other than a place for people who like books. (We like shows, too, because they're animated manga with sound. That's awesome.)

I know it's hard to believe but trust me. I read every single of our 3000's+ messages and it's kinda common. They usually just come and go though. Also could you update our group photo. It's kinda outdated :/

Viesti ryhmäsi ylläpitäjältäBehold! A new group image!
I'll look later for generic characters that don't have the same skin color and maybe suggest one more genre. This is just what I could put together quickly.
By the way, anyone who wants to design a different image is welcome to. We can vote for the next one.

That's impressive. I'm going to be really transparent here: I zone out when the messages don't make sense to me.
>10 Drystol: I'll also message you. Probably tomorrow, because it's late at night where I am now.

>20 farun: What do we do?
✧ Post adminy messages! ✧ Replace the group profile image! ✧ Look at notices saying new members have joined! ✧
It's all very exciting. (-ᴗ・)✧
We're actually talking about what we'll be doing. Ideally, the role is nothing more than a title. Our names show up on the group page and we keep up with the talk with an eye or two watching for discussions that might need a nudge. But I think it's best to figure out what to do when things get exciting in a "Hm, maybe we should lock membership for a while" sort of way.
So while we're making plans, what would you like the group admins to do?

The Boondocks is a U.S. production from a South Korean animated studios. The show was adapted from an American comic.
Just in case it doesn't show up on anime sites—that's why.

Viesti ryhmäsi ylläpitäjältäThe following is a repeat to help everyone in this group remember.
The LibraryThing team, which is the small group of people including the owner who's running this site, wants all groups to follow the site rules. That means no off-topic threads created. That means every thread in this group should include (polite!) talk about anime, manga, or related things.
Site members who do not follow the TOS may be suspended. Some members of this group might already have received warnings privately. Note that a group admin does not have the power to remove anyone from the entire site, only from the group. However, several people who are responsible for running LibraryThing do have the power to close accounts temporarily or permanently. They also have ways of blocking people who are repeatedly kicked out.
So, what's expected of you as a LibraryThing member? Discuss the topic of whatever Talk-based group you're in, remember kindness, and don't use more than one account per person solely for Talk or Messages.

keep in mind that any new group that looks (or is) the same as previously-existing and currently-active groups will almost certainly be deleted. The restriction includes groups that have nothing to do with either books or library management, because the site has an "off-topic" group already. Groups that appear to be created only for personal use are also deleted by the site admins.
