The translation is crucial for this one. Early translations of Verne novels were notorious for deleting large portions of his texts. An earlier DLE of “20,000 Leagues” is missing about one-fourth of what he wrote. Most recent translations are unabridged.

>2 jroger1: The fact that the EP volume's title shows the correct plural of "...Seas" instead of "Sea" gives me hope that it's a modern translation, such as Butcher or Walter, rather than Mercier.

They got A Journey to the Center of the Earth correct in the Illustrated edition, so there is hope for this one. Very happy to see this edition get made. The more Verne the better.

>4 Wootle: I hope you are correct, sir.
I like the art! I will totally be up for this one, assuming they didn't use some crap translation (which is still entirely possible). I'll wait for more info on that before ordering.
Okay, so who's going to call Easton to find out who the translator is and report back? :D

Illustrations are dynamic and intriguing and seem to be a great fit for the book. As usual, aside from not disclosing the translation, EP has gotten the number of illustrations wrong. 8 are mentioned in the description, but 10 are available for viewing... Nemo in the last photo kind of resembles the revolutionary Lenin ;P.

Why isn't this title visible in EP's website after two weeks from what I assume was a social media announcement or an email?!? Searching the website using keywords or combing through Deluxe Editions section yields no results...
8whytewolf1
>7 EPsonNY: The technical answer is that they seem to have listed it under https://www.eastonpress.com/all-categories/deluxe-limited-editions/ and yet neglected to list it under the similar link on the top navigation which goes to https://www.eastonpress.com/deluxe-editions/.
It also doesn't come up in site searches, but I'm getting Facebook ads for the book that click right through to the product page.
Unless there's some purpose to limiting the exposure of the book at this time, it's seemingly just more of EP's crappy web work which is really embarrassing at times.

>8 whytewolf1: If you choose Deluxe Limited Editions from the ALL CATEGORIES drop down menu, it is not there. Similarly, if I click on your first link, it is still not there. Is your conclusion based on the link from the first post?

20,000 Leagues under the EP's website?

>10 treereader: Finding Nemo?

>9 EPsonNY: Yes, it was. Sorry for any confusion. I didn't even realize that it didn't even show up if browsing under https://www.eastonpress.com/all-categories/deluxe-limited-editions/ . So, it only work if you go to the direct link.

Customer Service tells me that the translator is F. P. Walter. According to Wikipedia: “In 2010 Frederick Paul Walter issued a fully revised, newly researched translation, 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas: A World Tour Underwater. Complete with an extensive introduction, textual notes, and bibliography, it appeared in an omnibus of five of Walter's Verne translations titled Amazing Journeys: Five Visionary Classics and published by State University of New York Press; (ISBN 978-1-4384-3238-0).”

>13 jroger1:
1. Did you asked why the book is still not showing in the website?
2. As F. P. Walter's translation is a more recent one, never before used by EP, is this DLE a fancy scanned reprint of another publisher's text with a set of new illustrations and artist's signature thrown in?

>14 EPsonNY: Sorry, I didn’t realize it was still MIA, as I was using the link provided in >1 judgethatcher:. It isn’t scheduled to be available until January 22.
I think I’m correct in saying that all other books in this series have been reset in order to fit their standard 9x11 format, but there might have been some exceptions.

>13 jroger1: Well-done, sir! And thank you! I've been meaning to check up on this for a while now, and I've never remembered when I've actually had time to make the call. :P

>14 EPsonNY:
I asked customer service why their Search button doesn’t find the book and received this reply:
“The book may be already sold out because its not coming up on our website any longer, and there is nothing available at this time.”
Perhaps a different rep might give a different response.

>17 jroger1: I appreciate your follow-up with EP. This explanation clearly does not make sense as the above link is live and takes you straight to EP's website bearing their message "Now accepting orders. This product will be available Jan 22." Perhaps it is a technical glitch that can only be addressed and solved by their website team... Unless it is another "Conan the Barbarian case" where EP jumped the gun before ironing out all the details...
19jroger1
>18 EPsonNY:
My technical knowledge is somewhere between zero and nil, but I suspect you are right about the glitch. Or perhaps it has been delayed for some reason.

oops, apologies for the oversight, and thanks for pointing that out.
The art does appeal to me, but still on the fence.
is there anything that is done particularly well or poorly in this title?
