Just so everyone is clear, this is almost certainly printed in China, although bound in the USA. I typically avoid such EP editions, but I will admit they are pretty and certainly worthwhile if you want a beautiful cover. Just be aware.

The copyright page of the Landmark Herodotus says it was printed and bound in the United States, but the Landmark Thucydides contains no location statement. Both are beautifully done.
All three of the Landmark volumes are really, really expensive, though, probably because of all the photographs and charts and maps that had to be reproduced. I’m a big fan of the series.

>3 astropi: New guy here, how can do you know if a book is printed in China as opposed to the U.S.? Regardless of the answer I am saving to buy this one. I have several Landmark series books and hardback versions are difficult to come by new.

I am unaware of any actual Easton Press books published outside the U.S.
The one way this might be possible is when another publisher prints a text block and has Easton apply the leather cover treatment to it. These books are usually coffee table books and omnibus books.

>7 treereader: Thank you for the reply. I have two of the Landmark series in hardback, but the older ones are next to impossible to find, and if you do, they are not much cheaper than the Easton Press version, which is far nicer.

kdweber has claimed in another forum that Easton’s edition utilizes the text block from the trade edition. If he is correct (and he may well be), then it is printed in the United States as stated on the copyright page of the trade edition.

For what it's worth, both the trade hardcover and paperback versions of the Landmark series are printed in the US.
I've come across one EP book that explicitly states that it was printed in China - the Chartwell edition of Poe's The Raven.

Curious. I know the omnibus Poe with the raven on the cover is from a different publisher and given the leather treatment, but I wonder now who's text block is the Raven's - EP or other?

>5 GOBOGIE: I don't know if you have checked your messages or this forum but I'm willing to give you $500 to part with them both.

>13 MrLuck: the Julius Caesar landmark should be available on Easton Press' website. It looks like the price is $280. Assuming Herodotus was around the same price, that makes it $560 for the pair. I sincerely doubt anyone will accept your offer of $500 for these, I suspect they are worth substantially more in the second-hand market. If you're serious about finding these, I suggest upping your bounty by at least a few hundred dollars.

The Herodotus/Thucydides set was priced at $400 which seemed exorbitant at the time (and still does), but I have no doubt that it would sell for much more now. The Caesar price of $280 is even more outlandish and I refuse to reward EP by purchasing it.
If I were interested in turning it over for a quick profit, I might bite on it, but that isn’t why I buy books.

>15 jroger1: Thanks for the numbers. So the two were $680 in total. MrLuck I assume the $500 bounty is for the $400 set. Even so, that might be rather low, and you may want to consider upping your bounty.

>14 astropi: This is a good point. Thank you for the information. Do you think $750 is good?
And do you have them?
Edit : I just saw your other message where you said you didn't. The LEC edition does look amazing but I'm interested in all the supplementary material that comes alongside the Landmark Editions.

>19 MrLuck: I know the feeling. I missed out on the Centipede Press Elric books, and I've been trying to track them down with no luck :/
Should anyone have any copies, please let me know, I'll make it worth your while.

I actually think I may have just found one of them. I'll send you a message with a link.

It should be apparent by now that those of us on this forum who have the books in question don’t want to part with them. Most of us buy books to read, enjoy, and keep, but not to re-sell.
