Just finished up a time in Victorian London via The bones of ruin.

About halfway through my re-read of The Eye of the World. It's fun to see all of the foreshadowing and little details I missed the first time through. I am also seeing the cast of the upcoming show as the characters in the book.

I'm still riding the waves on Tide Child, the ship on The Tide Child Trilogy - currently towards the end of book 2, then I got book 3 to read.
I loved R. J. Barker's first trilogy, so I've been buying these new books as they came out (in order to support him), but only reading the trilogy in one go, once the last one was available.

Just started The Serpent's Shadow by Mercedes Lackey, the first of the Elemental Masters series. I'm a big fan of her Valdemar series, but this is the first time I've read anything else of hers.
6Sakerfalcon
I'm in New Salem with The once and future witches.
7vwinsloe
I'm in New York and Paris enjoying The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
8Niko
In Osten Ard, on a quest to find The Stone of Farewell.

Finished Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. Liked it better than I thought I would. Next up is Touch by Claire North.

Just some time in the Kingdom of Maples for Toby and Tybalt's wedding in When sorrows come by Seanan McGuire.
Before that, spent time in and around Washington, DC (including a quick trip to Harvard Univ.) in Call down the hawk by Maggie Stiefvater.
Next, exploring Charon's Crossing Tea Shop in TJ Klune's Under the whispering door.

>10 Cecrow: Nope, first time for me. :) I tried to read Dragonbone Chair when it first came out (lo, those many years ago), but I was a much less patient reader back then, and the slow opening following Simon being a slacker around the castle just didn't keep my interest long enough for me to get to the point where things started happening... and I just never went back to it.
It's been a breath of fresh air, revisiting this time when straightforward quest-driven stories didn't feel "tropey" or overdone yet.

>12 Niko: I think I first read it in the mid-90s, shortly after it was finished. I know I enjoyed it, but unfortunately the main thing I remember is that I was really really irritated by the beautiful elven kingdom that is about to be destroyed. I'm not sure it could entirely avoid feeling "tropey", even back then.
14Cecrow
> given the climate crisis today, at least that's a trope that can stand some revisiting now. And I think what I valued about that series in the 90s was how it wasn't a cake walk for the heroes. The villains had serious game.

>3 drmamm: I need to get back to that series, pronto!
>5 Darth-Heather: I started that series but then, I think, I caught up with as far as it had been written and/ or we moved to where the libraries don’t have as much choice, especially in fantasy and lost track of it.
>8 Niko: I should re-read that series. I remember I really liked it but that the books are doorstoppers, especially the third one - which was later split into two (doorstoppers).
More sci-fi than fantasy, but I’ve just left a Nigeria 200 years in the future (which has nanotechnology) where the Biafran war is being fought again.

This month's Storybundle is science fiction.

>15 humouress: I ended up reading through the first two Elemental Masters books, and while they were enjoyable enough, I'm not really tempted to pursue the remaining dozen books. I like the elemental concept, and the alternative take on well-known fairy tales, but these are a bit too YA even for me - there always has to be a dashing prince to the rescue, and there isn't a great deal of emotional depth. They were fun though, and I might pick up another someday. Are there any that you particularly enjoyed?
19Sakerfalcon
I'm in Upper Kylma with The winter duke.
20Cecrow
Catching up on what I've been missing with The Goblin Emperor.

>18 Darth-Heather: To be honest, I don't remember much more than I read a couple (or so) of the series.
I'm in Rowan's world with The Steerswoman.

Finished my re-read of The Eye of the World. It was nice to revisit the story, and the re-read was better because I knew what to look for in terms of foreshadowing and some smaller character elements I didn't pick up the first time through. It also made the new show (7/10) more enjoyable.
I'm now swinging back over into SF with Neal Stephenson's new doorstopper, Termination Shock. I'm huge Stephenson fan, but his recent stuff has been very uneven. I'm hoping he gets back into his groove with this one.

I'm swinging between France in the 18th century and NYC in the 21st century, with Addie who sold her soul for immortal life & found there's some small print in the bargain, in The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue Good read so far....
