Hannah French presents a live recital from London's Wigmore Hall by Camerata RCO, which features members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, offering a rare chance to hear Brahms' Serenade No 1 in its original chamber version for wind and string nonet. They begin with Nielsen's brief Serenata in Vano, which portrays two gentlemen playing a tune in a chivalric manner to lure a fair lady out onto her balcony, but to no avail. Since the performance is in vain (in vano), they return home to the tune of a march played for their own amusement. Nielsen: Serenata in Vano; Brahms: Sereande No 1 (orignal version). Camerata RCO.

In an all-too-rare UK appearance, Maisky is joined by his pianist daughter and recital partner for a programme centred on the sonata that Britten wrote for his friend the great cellist, Mstislav Rostropovich. Haydn and Schumann.

Recorded at St David's Hall in Cardiff earlier this year, in the second in this week's recitals the Carducci Quartet play Haydn's "Sunrise" quartet, so-called for its evocative opening, followed by Schumann's sparkling piano quintet, with Clare Hammond taking on the virtuosic piano part. Written with his concert pianist wife Clara Wieck in mind, after some adjustments suggested by Mendelssohn, it was Wieck who gave the public premiere in 1843. Introduced by Nicola Heywood Thomas. Haydn Plus: Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.

The final concert in the Haydn Plus series recorded at LSO St Luke's in September. Multi-award winning pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet gives a recital full of grace, lyricism and wit, starting with one of Haydn's solo keyboard sonatas. He follows Haydn with a sonata by Clementi, a composer often called 'the father of the piano', and the concert ends with great flourish as Bavouzet performs Liszt's virtuosic Grosses Konzert Solo. Perth Easter Festival.

Pianist Steven Osborne joins Scottish Chamber Orchestra soloists to perform Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time at Perth Concert Hall. Written while the composer was imprisoned by the Nazis in Stalag VIII-A at Gorlitz, the piece was first performed in the camp to the other prisoners. Messiaen took his inspiration from texts in the Book of Revelations - a mighty angel, apocalyptic scenes, birdsong, heavenly silence and the end of time itself. Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time. Andrew McGrgegor presents a live recital from London's Wigmore Hall, with violinist Henning Kraggerud playing Grieg's Third Violin Sonata, Amy Beach's Romance and a new piece of his own. The outstanding Norwegian musician offers Wigmore audiences the first performance in this country of a new piece that was first played in Tromso last year. Romantartica brings together two ports of departure: Tromso, from which many explorers set off for the Arctic, and Hobart, a departure point for Antarctic expeditions including those of Scott and Amundsen. Martin Handley presents a live recital from London's Wigmore Hall, with pianist Elisabeth Brauss performing sonatas by Scarlatti, Prokofiev, Mozart and Ravel. A member of Radio 3's prestigious New Generation Artists scheme until the end of last year, Brauss reveals her wide-ranging musical interests in a programme that begins with some of Scarlatti's sparkling sonatas and ends with Prokofiev's short but hugely demanding Third Sonata. In between comes Ravel's radiant Sonatine and Mozart's disturbing Sonata in A minor, written around the time of his mother's death. Kate Molleson presents a recital recorded at Edinburgh's Queen's Hall in November 2019, with the Brodsky Quartet performing Elgar's Violin Sonata in E minor and his String Quartet in E minor. The works were written during a creative retreat to the West Sussex countryside in 1919. The violin sonata, played by quartet first violin Gina McCormack and pianist Martin Roscoe, and the quartet are both written in E minor, the key of his famous cello concerto, which was also written at this time and which share many similarities in musical ideas and characterisation.
