Levant controversy - 1945

Hi there, can anybody here recommend a good history of the Levant Controversy involving Syria, Lebanon, France and England in 1945? I just read an interesting segment about these events in a contemporary (July 1945) magazine and wondered whether there was some good relatively authoritative reading to do on the subject. Thanks!

I read James Barr's A line in the sand earlier this year: I don't know if you'd class it as authoritative, but it's easy to find and has a decent bibliography that might get you started.
