My family drew Ranma 1/2 fan art for the drawing time we do together every week. My drawing was a boring copy of a season box cover, but one of the things my husband drew is Genma Saotome's teapot. That's when I learned the panda-man is seen in the anime using a different teapot when he's by himself than when he's drinking tea with others. I hadn't noticed.

Well, let's see. Had a couple favorite titles come in this week, Snow White with the Red Hair (#10) and Kaguya-sama: Love is War (#16). So that's good.

Manga, Manhua, and Manhwa Read in 2020

I've been thinking about trying He's My Only Vampire, kind of looks interesting. It looks like a complete series which is good. I hate starting a series and then just having it stop without ending.

Okay, so, I've learned that Better World Books sells manga, sometimes ex-library copies that look new except for the library stickers and stamps. Most stickers on used volumes can removed with a paint scraper, alcohol wipes, and large amounts of patience. I don't mind the library name and address on the inside.

My holiday gift to myself included parts of Blue Exorcist, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, and a shorter series new to me, Shout Out Loud!. The last one is so-so.

My sword-loving child is getting new copies of the two-volume Rurouni Kenshin from Santa, but he's been delayed by slow mail a weather emergency or something.

I delivered a letter from Santa explaining how gifts were misplaced. It came with an apology gift (a book about Japan, which she's asking about every day). The manga arrived the other day, so it will appear under the tree tonight after we celebrate the end of 2020.

I am deeply grateful to see the end of this year.

Damn, I know the feeling. The best way is to find something else to take you mind of of that person. I recently moved away like a month or two ago and had a boyfriend. I didn't even get a chance to break up with him or tell him bye. I had to get his friend to teel him for me b/c I couldn't find him. I took me a while to get over him. But I did, I focused my thoughts on other things like school or books, and anime. After a while I just didn't think about him. I had my friends to empty up that empty void.
So maybe try spending more time with other friends.

Adding more members to a large* but quiet group rarely makes the group more active. The question to ask is how to encourage members to be more active?

Specifically, what would encourage group members to talk about anime, manga, and related stuff? A bunch of nonsense that entertains a few people for a few seconds isn't worth the space it takes up here; and this isn't one of the platforms where that's fun for long, anyway. This also isn't a general social group.

I have a feeling there was a rumor going around that this group is... something... other than what it was meant to be. If enough members want to change what the group is about, we can with a name change and all that, but the group will still need to follow the expectations of LibraryThing. The team that runs the site says groups should have a specific interest.

* The current count is 693 members! That's just from the change in membership settings last season. The problem is extremely low engagement. People are joining but not feeling up to talking--or to adding anything to their catalogs. Maintaining a catalog of works is primarily what this site is for! (I feel like offering prizes for members who figure out how to add at least one anime, manga, light novel. Mmm... like, digital stickers?)

But, what were y'all expecting to see in this group? Links to proxy sites, apparently. What else other than general chitchat?

What even happened to this place. I'm genuinely confused. I haven't been here for like a solid 3 or 4 months but now I'm back I might just dip again. 💀 This used to be a place for mainly sharing useful unblocked (mostly anime/manga) sites for students who didn't have personal devices and had to rely on a school device.
Now I'm back and the main chat has been shut down for a reasonable purpose it seems, but that pretty much led to the downfall of this place. There are a whole bunch of different topics now, all dead for the most part.
It would be really hard for newcomers to gain a feel of what the point of this group really is with everything scattered around like this. Most newcomers, like me a year ago, found this group because they were looking for unblocked sites. Newcomers, like me, were more likely to hang around back then because unblocked sites were actually being shared and easily accessed but idek what's going on now 🤷🏾‍♀ can't imagine how newcomers are supposed to know and stick around for it.

You see, when the main chat started during that time the site had many active users. But as of now, there isn't much activity here because LibraryThing is an old site, and there's many other social media platforms such as Quora where people can ask these questions. Plus back then not many people had personal devices and there was no access to those sites, while now people have advanced phones and all that shit, leading to the downfall. (sorry its long lmao)

The comparison of current activity to 2010 seems strange, because, well, think about it. Way back then, forums weren't expected to match the floodwater pace of social media such as Facebook (if you were popular) and Twitter. I also looked in our group Talk; this Manga and Anime Addicts group has been more active this year than it was in its first year, which was 2010.

This site is also much bigger than this one group. Calling LibraryThing dead or extinct seems to ignore most of what the site does. Going to Zeitgeist (one of the links in the top site header), noting the numbers at the top of page, then refreshing after a few minutes gives a hint of the site's life.

That's not to say going outside--when the weather is nice!--to bathe in a little area of nature isn't a great idea. Making visits to the site a routine instead of a random thing that feels like the obsessive checking people do on major social media sites might be healthy, too.

But while on this site, ummm... for what to do other than talking in the forums, sending private messages, cataloging works, adding to Common Knowledge, looking up recommendations, or reading reviews, there's participating in...

I'm teaching my child about soccer, though neither of us are especially interested. She just needs to know more about sports in general. We realized she couldn't tell apart a soccer ball from a basketball. Not knowing the difference is awkward in conversations.
