Finished ninth house by Leigh Bardugo. The end sets up for a sequel.

Now reading spinning silver by Naomi Novik, and
listening to audio edition of beast player, Nahoko Uehashi.
Both good!

waiting in the wings - the hummingbird dagger, Cindy Anstey

Just re-read Resurrection Man, and again I found it absolutely brilliant. I'm a total sucker for stories which have fantasy elements but where the drama between the characters is more important than the fantasy details. I also love how the magic in Sean Stewart novels typically has a dreamlike, mysterious quality. White is for Witching is waiting in the wings (love that expression, >6 nrmay:) as I finish up some non-fantasy books.

>6 nrmay: What did you think of Ninth House? I've been intrigued for a while but haven't been moved to pick it up yet.

Finished The Devil You Know by Mike Carey. Enjoyed it but, like his SF stuff he writes as M. R. Carey, it does tend toward the brutal/violent at times. He doesn't really pull his punches.

I've just finished Grave secrets, a humorous "urban" fantasy (it's set in rural Staffordshire but features zombies, vampires and a snarky heroine). The dialogue is rather clunky in places but overall I really enjoyed this light but gory read.

re: Ninth House. It was ok but not sure I'll read the next one.
It has intricate plot, many characters. I liked the urban setting - Yale U and Cambridge. The grays (ghosts) were great. Story is really creepy, borders on horror.
I liked Bardugo's other books more - Six of Crows and Grishaverse series.

>11 nrmay: Good to know, thanks! I liked her other books as well but I'll probably keep holding off on Ninth House.

In New Arcadia with Sunshine. These challenging times called for a little YA vampire lore.

>13 vwinsloe: I don't remember Sunshine very well, I read it so long ago, but I do remember wishing that there was a sequel of some sort that I don't think every appeared.

I'm somewhere in the U.S. (not sure the "where" is mentioned) reading The Body Finder which is a YA supernatural story about teen girl drawn to the bodies of violent death to set their souls at rest.

*Edited - The Body Finder takes place in Washington State near Mt. Rainier. It was finally mentioned.

I'm in England with the four Fallow sisters, in Comet Weather by Liz Williams. It's reminding me strongly of John Crowley's Little, Big, which is high praise.

>28 Unreachableshelf: I just read the Kindle Sample for A Stitch in Time!

I'd be curious for your thoughts on how "romance-trope-y" it is? I am not generally good at getting invested in seeing characters evolving romantic relationship as the primary driver for a story... but I was a huuuuge fan of timeslip stories when I was young, and have felt for a long time that the fantasy genre needed more of that sort of smaller-scale, more localized time travel, so this caught my eye pretty hard.

I couldn't tell from the sample if this was going to be a straight romance book with a fantasy element in their coming together, or if there would be more to it than that.
