I know there was a similar topic to this, but it's old and I just want to know: what was your first anime and what are animes suitable for younger children (eight year old boys?)? Mine was Sword Art Online

There is always Cardcaptor Sakura which is for a younger audience. I didn't start watching anime until I was an adult, but my son started watching with me at about 8 or 9 years old. We watched some relatively tame ones like Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Avatar (if you want to count a Nickelodeon show as "anime") and Inuyasha. Those were his first ones. The first one I remember watching is Tsubasa.

mine was sao i had been pushed by a friend and i got into anime

My first two were Robotech and Speed Racer. I think Speed Racer will be better for the younger set.

>6 gilroy: i both disagree and agree speed racer has had some..rather bad things in it

>2 Ryukie: My first was likely the original Voltron, though I think it had a different name when it aired on TV back in the day. I actually didn't like it much.
The first show that really caught me up as an anime fan was Ranma 1/2. That was in high school. A friend was able to order VHS tapes from an import catalog. (I'm old.) Before that, I'm not sure I knew that the animated shows on TV were from Japan.
Recommendations for an eight-year-old? Hmm. All I can think of at the moment is Digimon. I tend to think of mixed-origin (like Canadian-French-Japanese) shows as for children while most anime distributed in the USA as for teens and adults. How broad a definition are we using?

My first anime was pokemon lol but it might not be considered an anime so one of my first animes was OG naruto and The Seven Deadly Sins.

>2 Ryukie: I've started watching Little Witch Academia, which so far looks perfect for eight-year-olds who like watching cute girls learning magic. The story plays out like deathless shounen. ("I'm going to be one of the most powerful magic users! But first, I have to make friends and escape extreme dangers no one else has had to deal with in a long time to level up from being one of the weakest!")

>13 aspirit: I want to watch Little Witch Academia but idk if its good, but this kinda sounds like naruto or aot with being the weakest but becoming stronger and stopping any danger that people haven't dealt with in a long time.

>14 DEMON_King_Meliodas: I put off watching the show for a while. Netflix kept recommending it, but I figured it wasn't actually good for me. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

My first one was Pokemon. I remember also watching Digimon, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, and Hamtaro.

Mine was Your Name which my older son took me to see. It was so beautiful.

Ah, I believe my first anime was My Hero Academia, It came highly recommended to me by a couple friend of mine. It is kind of sad seeing how far I have fallen into the Anime/Manga territory in 1 year.
*Edit*
Actually, scratch that, it was Voltron

>17 SqueakyChu: I LOVE your name it was kinda confusing but yeah

>19 Silas-_-: Probably, but I doubt that it could top the anime-- which I was able to see back in the pre-covid days when it was actually safe to attend a movie!
