Received proof books did not go to print, can we remove?

I've been tracking down all my unreceived books, usually going out of pocket to buy, but I finally heard back from these two authors the book never went to print. Can we remove them from the "system?" not just from the library, but from the giveaway, that way it doesn't show up as a unreceived, but rather, it doesn't show up at all. I'm probably not explaining this as well as I should, 2020 has just been **gestures around**, but ya'll got me.

Luminary by Tracy Marchini October 2011 batch of Member Giveaways never went to print, and neither did A debate with an economist by Sérgio Afonso (Sept 2014 batch) MG.

Not really if they belong to other people. After all some people might have an ARC or even the MS copy.

It doesn't matter. It's a record in someone else's library and that's that. Only they can delete or alter it.

The Work can't be removed, but the giveaways probably could be. On the other hand, for MG it really doesn't matter. Of course, you are free to delete your copy.

They are certainly NOT spam.

(Spam question gone from both books now.)

BTW, there are various reasons why a planned book might not be published. In most cases the author is more disappointed than readers.

WTF.

People can enter unpublished books, never-to-be-published books, non-books. The most fundamental core principle of LT is that user data is sacred, and that as long as it's not spam people can enter what they want. You don't get to demand that the "system" delete books from other people's libraries just because you want it to not show up on your Member Giveaways.

>7 lorax: Book data isn't sacred on LT. We lose access to data for books in our collections in a variety of ways Tim and crew either ignore or support. (Although I agree the response often feels disrespectful to LT principles and thereby members at times.)

>1 kristincedar: You're asking for books that weren't published, not even for review copies, to be removed from the Members Giveaway tracking. Aren't you?

As MG isn't the same as Early Reviewers, it has its own group. See https://www.librarything.com/groups/membergiveaway.

In ER, a publisher's promise to send books to reviewers continues to be relevant even when broken. No one's likely to agree removing the listings of unpublished books from ER is a good idea, because that would interfere with records used in the long-term on both the member and ER admin sides.

Giveaways work differently. Promises in MG don't hold the same weight, and I can see a benefit in discussing what should happen with entries of books that members can't have in their possession when LT's sitewide focus is on existing books. I recommend taking the discussion to its appropriate group.

The review field is for reviews, not complaints that you didn't get the book.

>1 kristincedar: I can see how some people might still want a record that they requested that book, even if the book never exists, so I would be opposed to removing it from Member Giveaway. (Because that would affect other users' data, not just your own.) Some people keep their own personal lists of books they have requested from Member Giveaway and would be confused if one of the books on their personal list just disappeared from the official Member Giveaway listing.

It would be nice to have a permanent "Book will never be received" status for situations like this (and would also be useful for some Early Reviewer situations as well.)
