July 2020 Americana Challenge has been posted

Trying to work out group reads, which is difficult with libraries shut, can you let me know which of these books you can get hold of.

The Bishop’s Pawn by Steve Berry, #13 in the Cotton Malone Series

The Skeleton Room by Kate Ellis, #7 in the Wesley Peterson Series

The Gallery of the Dead by Chris Carter, #9 in the Robert Hunter Series

The Gathering Dark by James Oswald, #8 in the Inspector McLean Series

Lost Girls by Angela Marsons, #3 in the D I Kim Stone Series

Where Shadows Dance by C S Harris, #6 in the Sebastian St. Cyr Series

The Concrete Blond by Michael Connelly, #3 in the Harry Bosch Universe

Bloodline by James Rollins, #8 in the Sigma Force Series

A Plague Maiden by Kate Ellis, #8 in the Wesley Peterson Series

The Scent of Death by Simon Beckett, #6 in the Dr David Hunter Series

I've got Lost Girls now. I can get Where Shadows Dance sometime in August. Those are the only 2 group reads I'm planning on doing.

Right now I can get The Bishop's Pawn, The Skeleton Room, Where Shadows Dance, The Concrete Blond, Bloodline, and The Plague Maiden.

I have:

Bishop's Pawn, Gallery of the Dead, Lost Girls, Where Shadows Dance, Concrete Blonde, and Bloodline. I can probably get the others depending on what we decide to go with.

I have all but Bishop's Pawn. I have multiple library options for ebooks so can probably get the book if needed.

I have all of them

I will participate if you read:
The Concrete Blonde (I'm caught up)
Lost Girls (I'm one book behind)

I can get and participate in Concrete Blonde

While some of these are available in local libraries (which are set to reopen in the UK next week), I'm undecided on how comfortable I feel actually borrowing books in the current climate.
I'll have to give this some thought over the weekend.

>11 Sergeirocks: Our libraries have semi-opened now. What they are doing when books are returned is to quarantine them for a number of days before they are allowed to be checked out again. Perhaps your library will do something similar?

HAPPY 244th BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!

Not sure where things stand with the group reads. I can get Lost Girls, it’s the only book from the above list that I planned to join in the group read. I Hope to join more often once you finish some of the current series you are reading and start new ones.

>14 bluebird_: We haven't heard anything from Andrew about the group read. He may be busy trying to sort out how to reopen his school. I wish him luck...he's going to need it. Glad you are joining us.

>16 bluebird_: Me too. I sure don't envy him his task. I really admired him for the steps he took to keep the children informed when this first started. He seems to be just an all around good guy. The world could use a few more like him. I really don't think life will ever be the way we once knew it...but this can't last forever. Knock on wood.

School holidays are just about to start here in England, so I suspect Andrew is buried under a pile of children's reports, as well as the covid stuff he's having to contend with. I dare say we'll hear from him at some point over weekend.

>18 Sergeirocks: Spot on Sergei, trying to find time to write 400 reports this year amongst dealing with Covid, starting to take some year groups back and plan for all children to return on 2nd September and write the 43 page risk assessment (!!!) has been a major challenge. Also worked every day for five months including Bank Holidays has been interesting!

>16 bluebird_: Thanks, been a very difficult five months but still got some good memories from this period working with families and the Twitter Feed we have used to good effect to keep the school alive. Unlike in other parts of the world, schools here closed down, but then had to stay open to look after the children of the key workers, those people critical to fight against Covid 19.

>17 Carol420: Let’s hope it’s not for ever and we can find an effective vaccine.🤞🤞🤞 With the hygiene measures takes so long to do the slightest thing. Shopping is like a major military exercise with cleaning before and after and cleaning the shopping! 🥵🥵🥵

Thanks everyone for letting me know what books you could get hold of. Apologies for the absence but we will try to get normal service resumed around books we can get hold of.

I suggest the first one we should do as is on most lists is The Concrete Blond by Michael Connelly. What about starting it Wednesday 22nd July

>22 Andrew-theQM: Lost Girls is one that the library would have to order and they aren't doing any special orders yet. I can't even get it on Overdrive. Go ahead and read it if that is what most people can get and I'll lurk in the shadows. I am so good at lurking:) I can get The Concrete Blond and Wednesday the 22nd is fine...but please read what the most people have or can get.
