I lost interest in photography with the advent of digital photography. Suddenly the magic of creating works of art in the darkroom was lost forever. What is the point of spending a couple of hours under a red light with dishes full of smelly chemicals to produce one fine print when you can do it on your computer with a good quality printer in a couple of minutes. Digital cameras have also made taking pictures with your camera so much easier and so much less expensive.

The photographer's gallery in Soho London was once almost a second home to me with its exhibition space and excellent shop window of photographic books. Good quality photographic books were always expensive items, but had the unique appeal of being able to be enjoyed immediately in short bursts and could be looked at time and time again. The Pompidou gallery in Paris has an excellent collection of photography and art books for sale and I usually spend more time there than at the exhibitions.

However the age of the internet does mean that we now have access to many of those photographs at the touch of a key and so a space to share some of those photographs from those old masters:
