I just started A False Spring; anybody read it? Hope to get some real spring soon, it's 10 degrees outside!

The first part of Robert Coover's The Universal Baseball Association, Inc., J. Henry Waugh, Proprieter is very, very funny and a great baseball tonic during the winter doldrums.

I haven't read either of those but the Coover book is on my shelf awaiting my attention. For right now, I have a couple of baseball books on my "between book" pile. "Between books" are what I call those books, usually anthologies of some sort, that I like to read one chapter or story at a time between the books I read all in one go.
My two baseball between books right now are The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract and Top of the Heap: a Yankees Collection.

I have a new book on The Gashouse Gang ready to go, but I'm waiting for the season to begin. There's a fantastic book on Branch Rickey by Lee Lowenfish that came out last year that got me interested again in that era of the Cardinals.
There's also the new edition of Baseball Prospectus 2008 to pore over.

Hi Bob81,
I've read A False Spring and I enjoyed it. It's an honest portrayal of the ups and downs of a minor league player in the early 60s. A great read. Pat Jordan wrote a sequel many years later (the name escapes me at the moment) and I liked it too.

I think the sequel is A Fine Tuesday.
Rather than turn this into a greatest baseball books thread, I'll mention two new paperbacks for spring, A Well-Paid Slave about Curt Flood, and The Echoing Green about the backstory and ripple effect of Bobby Thomson's famous homer.
