2020 What's your goal?

1cyderry
Muokkaaja: joulukuu 30, 2019, 9:35 am

I have decided to stick with the same goal as last year - 84 - that's averaging 7 ROOTS a month. I have some other activities I'm hoping to get done in 2020 so I don't want to get myself too overwhelmed with a goal I can't reach.

I'm upping my goal from 50 to 60, since in 2019 I read 100 ROOTs. I'm trying to read more library books, but I doubt I'll read all that many.

joulukuu 30, 2019, 9:59 am

I'll go for 12.

I have been a terrible, wishy washy ROOTer for years. I am promising myself to do better this year. I am making a very small goal this year: 18.

joulukuu 30, 2019, 11:06 am

I'm going to increase my goal from 48 (4 per month) to 60 (5 per month). I exceeded that by quite a lot in 2019, but that gives me wiggle room if I have a slump!

I'll keep my 30 books read from my book pile ( or tower)

My goal is: as many ROOTs as possible. That's what seems attainable for me ;-)

Good luck everybody with your challenges.

I am hoping to match my 2019 total of 20 ROOTs.

I'm upping my goal too. From 36 to 42.

Happy Rooting everybody!

I have reached my goal three years in a row - time to up the ante from 40 to 50.

So for 2019 I said 12 and read 39. So for 2020 I'm aiming for 30.That also leaves space to read "newbies" lol. Happy reading all!

Muokkaaja: joulukuu 30, 2019, 6:36 pm

I am setting my goal at 36. My energy is slowly running down and I do not spend as much time reading as I once did. But I think this goal will be attainable.

Good luck with your ROOTs everyone. :-)

And many thanks to Cheli for all of her time & efforts. It is appreciated.

I'll go for 60 again this year. Setting up my tickers in just a tick!

Help! I would like to join, but how/where do I get a ticker and put it on my thread and on the ticker thread? Thanks.

>15 arubabookwoman: https://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php?type=14 is one type. Follow the instructions and then at the end it gives you the code to insert into your thread and the ticker thread for everyone. Good luck!

I'm upping mine from 30 to 45. That's 5 more than I read in 2019, I was 10 over goal, but I'm determined to read more overall in 2020.

I think I will stay with 100 for 2020.

I got through 19 out of 25 last year, so I'll keep my goal the same.

20CurrerBell
joulukuu 31, 2019, 12:19 am

I went with 100 for 2019 and had to reduce it to 40 a week or two ago because health issues have really intruded on me this year. I'm going to stick with 40 and then increase it later in the year if I'm more successful in 2020 than I was in 2019.

joulukuu 31, 2019, 12:31 am

I'm sticking with the same goal as last year which is 65. Hopefully, I'll read more of my own books in 2020.

22lilisin
joulukuu 31, 2019, 1:51 am

This year I’m really hoping to read my in Japanese books which take me longer to read and my in French books which all seem to be at least 500 pages. So I feel like I should decrease my goal but that wouldn’t be a challenge so I think I’ll stick with 50 since I usually end up padding my numbers with manga throughout the year. Will upload my ticker to the ticker thread when I’m back at my home computer in two days.

joulukuu 31, 2019, 1:55 am

I've been having good success for the past 2 years with a goal of 20. But I am going to focus on the longer books on my booklist next year, both ROOTs and other books, so I am going to reduce my ROOT goal to 15 for 2020. If I happen to exceed that, I won't mind, and I don't think anyone else will either.

24leslie.98
joulukuu 31, 2019, 10:10 am

I am setting my goal at 75 - I have too many unread books (in all formats: print, ebook and audiobook) to do less.

25cyderry

Please remember to join the group or I can't count your books!

26Erratic_Charmer

I had 20 books on my TBR shelf, and 20 in 2020 seemed like such a nice, round, achievable goal.

But then my partner cleared out their bookshelves and I got so many lovely paperbacks as hand-me-downs :)

I've hidden the new books in boxes under the bed and my goal for the year is to finish my 20 TBR books *first*. Only then will I be allowed to rummage through the hand-me-downs and pick an additional 20, to make a total goal of 40 ROOTs for the year!

I'm also doing a RONB this year (Replace Only No Buy - meaning I'm not purchasing any new books until I've read everything on my shelves). Exceptions allowed for borrowing library books for book group once a month.

I'm going for 40 ROOTs this year. Thank you for hosting, Cheli, and happy ROOTing to everyone!

28sibylline
joulukuu 31, 2019, 11:53 am

Whoa! 40! That's great. My current plan is to choose 5 books from 5 categories, so that would be 25. That's about what I managed this year, so realistic. Am still in the throes of choosing the books! Will set up thread once that is done.

29HelenBaker
joulukuu 31, 2019, 5:33 pm

Despite exceeding my goal by 6 this year, I am pulling back to 48 as I too want to read some of the bigger books on my TBR shelves. I find myself avoiding them because I am trying to stay on track for this group. Hopefully I will manage more. Now to remember how to set up tickers and find the necessary threads. Always a bit of a challenge for me...

joulukuu 31, 2019, 5:48 pm

Partially to coincide with the year 2020, I am going for 20 ROOTs this year. Although it doesn't sound like much, that would be a lot for me in terms of reading books I own. I also read a lot of library books, so I need to allow time for those too.

31mandymarie20
tammikuu 1, 2020, 1:22 am

Back for an eighth time. Going for 25 this year. Hopefully can do better than last year.

32ahef1963
Muokkaaja: tammikuu 1, 2020, 2:05 am

I've got 200+ TBRs - the TBR shelf has taken over the bookshelf and the floor next to the bookshelf and all sorts of other places as well. There are a lot of books on my e-reader as well. I have read just over 90 books this year and last, and I'm going to try to read 100 this year - a little less streaming networks, a little more reading. There are still a few books that are going to trickle in from 2019 orders, so I'll be shelving a few more, but I'm not going to buy any new books, unless one of my favourite writers publishes a new book, or there is some other very good reason for an exception*. I am going to try very hard not to buy any new books this year.

*a favourite author dies, I travel abroad - in that case I always try to buy something there in English by a writer of that nationality, my birthday.

Wow! I am impressed that so many of you are planning to read so many of your own tomes. I am going to aim for twelve this year, so that I can
1) read some of my longer tomes
2) not feel rushed
3) feel good if I exceed my goal

tammikuu 1, 2020, 8:14 am

Back again for me too, sticking with 30 as that was a pleasant pressure throughout the year.

Welcome back and best of luck to all.

tammikuu 1, 2020, 10:12 am

I'm back again this year! My goal for 2019 was 50 books and somehow I wound up with over 100 ROOTs completed. I don't think I can swing that again this year so I'm sticking with a safe goal of 50. I've even listed out the 50 from our shelves that need to be read so I can try and resist the siren song of fresh library books!

Happy New Year!

I am going to upgrade my goal to 60 books for 2020. Last year it was 55 and I far exceeded that goal. I know my years have gotten busier and yet I find more time to read and listen to books so I think that 60 is a reasonable goal.

39floremolla
tammikuu 1, 2020, 1:04 pm

Hi Chèli, thank you for hosting once again.

I'm scaling back a bit this year with a 50 ROOT goal - missed my 2019 goal by one, i.e. 59/60, but in my defence it was a year of adjusting to new life circumstances.

I think I'm back in the zone now and excited about choosing which books will make the list for 2020! Good luck all!

40FAMeulstee
tammikuu 1, 2020, 1:34 pm

My goal for 2020 is 24 ROOTs

Some might notice my goal is much lower than in previous years. I have read all my childrens/YA books in the last 3 years. Books left to read will take much more time to read.

41enemyanniemae
tammikuu 1, 2020, 1:38 pm

I'm going with a conservative goal this year again.. so 50 is my magic number once more. And hopefully again I will blow right through that magic number and keep going. Happy reading all!

42karenmarie
tammikuu 1, 2020, 2:16 pm

Hi Chèli. I love this group and am so glad that you're hosting again - thank you for all your efforts throughout the year!

I've cut out counting re-reads as ROOTs this year - I'm only counting previously unread books on my shelves 12/31/18 or earlier. 30 is my goal for the year.

43arubabookwoman
tammikuu 1, 2020, 2:49 pm

My goal is 36, ridiculously low considering I have more than 2000 TBR's, although to be fair a large percentage of those are Kindle books rather than physical books. Since I am mostly concerned about physical books, I currently do not plan to include Kindle books in this challenge. However, if I get it a bind meeting my goal, I might change my mind. Here's to a good reading year for everyone!

44Rebeki
tammikuu 2, 2020, 11:56 am

I'm going to keep my goal at 24 books in 2020, although I'd like to read some of the longer books I own, so this feels a little ambitious...

45MissWatson
tammikuu 2, 2020, 1:02 pm

I almost missed my goal last year, so I am scaling back. Anything beyond my goal will be a joy.

tammikuu 3, 2020, 5:00 pm

Greetings, all! Happy to go again this year. Last year my goal was 20 but I read 26. So this year I'll try to inch a little higher! I've set a goal of 27. My thread with ticker is up.

47martencat
tammikuu 5, 2020, 12:54 pm

Well 20 in 2020 sounds good, but the TBR pile grew last year and I am determined that it's not going to reach 3 figures. The official goal is 30 but to halve the TBR pile I should read 35 books ...

48bragan
tammikuu 7, 2020, 11:47 am

I made my slightly lowered goal last year, but only just. Overall, it was a slightly disappointing year for me, in terms of how much reading I got done compared to previous years, and I feel like towards the end I was reading a lot of things because they were short and qualified as ROOTs, rather than because they were what I really wanted to read. (Not that some of those weren't good! But, still.)

So I've lowered my goal again this year, to 50 ROOTs, which I think I should be able to make with very little effort. (Of course, I thought that about last year's 80, too, so we'll see.) Hopefully that will take some of the pressure off, and let me relax and enjoy myself more while still encouraging me to keep reading some ROOTs. Either that, or it will backfire by removing motivation to read more, but I am optimistic!

49Quaisior
toukokuu 4, 2020, 4:55 pm

My goal is to read 50 of my own books.
