A list of writers I have recently read and some from a longer time ago:
Antonio Munoz Molina- his Sepharad is a masterpiece.
Javier Cercas-Soldiers of Salamis, The Speed of Light, Anatomy of a Moment
Roberto Bolano. Between Parentheses his non fiction is an interesting complement to his novel and stories I think 2666 is a masterpiece as is Savage Detectives How many writers can claim more than 1 masterpiece?
Enrique Vila-Matas- Montano's Malady and Bartleby are the best.
Antonio Lobo Antunes- The Land at the End of the World-brilliant
Goncalo M.Tavares- Learning To Pray in the Age of Technology- in addition to being one of the great titles for a novel is a frightening story of authoritarianism that strikes a chord today.
Antonio Tabucchi, though Italian thought of himself as Portuguese. The Missing Head of Damasceno Monteiro and Pereira Declares.

This is off my turf...Cervantes, Pessoa, and Saramago, plus of course Antunes...these I know. Otherwise...The Family of Pascual Duarte...and I think that's where i am stud. Julian Rios (?), seemed a difficult translation--I couldn't read the book Larva, but I had the feeling that his spirit was absent in translation...
