Still in Roshar as I'm reading Brandon Sanderson's Oathbringer.

marraskuu 10, 2018, 9:15 am

I made a quick stop in Houston for Diamond Fire. Now it's on to the DFZ for some Minimum Wage Magic.

marraskuu 10, 2018, 9:52 am

Not in Fantasyland right now, but in post-Soviet Union-collapse Estonia at the beginning of Purge by Sofi Oksanen.

marraskuu 10, 2018, 5:25 pm

I’m in Bitterblue in the Seven Kingdoms, the city named after the queen that rules her as the capital city of Monsea.

marraskuu 11, 2018, 4:45 pm

Finished Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. Found it to be rather dull and uninspired.

marraskuu 12, 2018, 8:59 am

About 50 pages into The Well-Favored Man, figuring out what to do about a dragon who's taken up residence on a nearby mountaintop.

(I don't really have a full sense of the setting yet. There seems to be some sort of multiverse or world-hopping deal going on with characters contacting each other from locations that sound like they're in different worlds, not just different cities of the same world?)

marraskuu 13, 2018, 11:22 am

I'm in Bruges, under siege by the Chatelaine of Hell, in Armed in her Fashion.

marraskuu 13, 2018, 7:54 pm

I'm heading back to the world of the Greatcoats with Knight's Shadow.

marraskuu 14, 2018, 11:14 am

>13 Narilka: That one's been on my shortlist to read before the end of the year, too. I'm definitely intrigued to see how the series evolves, because I had some significant highs AND lows with the first book.

marraskuu 15, 2018, 12:38 am

Adding Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett into my reading rotation.

Muokkaaja: marraskuu 15, 2018, 4:04 pm

I’m in San Francisco with October Daye, warding off faerie with Rosemary and Rue.

marraskuu 15, 2018, 9:00 pm

>14 Niko: I'm not in far yet, only 6 chapters, but so far so good. I'll let you know.

marraskuu 17, 2018, 12:09 pm

I'm in Bryers Guerdon trying to avoid Long Lankin.

marraskuu 18, 2018, 8:54 pm

I accidentally left my previous book at my parents' house, so while I'm working on getting back to pick it up, I took a detour to the land of bears and dragons and valkyries with Travel Light by Naomi Mitchison, a really lovely book for anyone who enjoys books that capture that sort of timelessness of fairy stories. It's a crime this didn't become a well-known children's classic alongside Narnia or E. Nesbit's work and the like.

Coming up next... I'm giving serious thought to stepping back into Malazan for The Crippled God. I loathed Book 9 with a passion (and in general am just not as big a fan of the series as most people who get this far seem to be) but I already own book 10, so feel like I may as well at least give it a shot. I may end up just skimming for chapters about characters I actually care about, but at least I'll finally be done with the series and be able to put it in the rearview.

>19 Niko: BTW, somehow I had missed that the duology of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom were set in the same world as others series of Leigh Bardugo, so thanks for that tip last month. I will probably check them out, but after a break for a while.... I spend weeks procrastinating finishing the Crooked Kingdom because I wasn't enjoying the payoff as much as the set-up.

After reading Space Opera, which can best be described as throwing Douglas Adams in a blender with Eurovision, I've moved on over the Thanksgiving break to getting into Territory and am digging it so far.

>16 humouress: I'm not super widely read in urban fantasy, but I enjoyed the first couple books of that series as a quick diversion. Probably the second book sticks in my memory the most. What are your thoughts so far?

marraskuu 22, 2018, 1:56 pm

I finished Brandon Sanderson's Oathbringer and the anthology Legends: Tales from the Eternal Archives edited by Margaret Weis this week.

Muokkaaja: marraskuu 23, 2018, 12:25 am

>20 Kanarthi: I've now finished Rosemary and Rue which we read as our inaugural book in our brand new book club. Some faults, but fun. I have the second book on my shelves and will get to it sometime. I've written a review but haven't posted it yet; will let you know when I do.

ETA: but it's on my thread, if you're desperate to know ;0)

>14 Niko: I finished and reviewed Knight's Shadow. Here's a link if you're curious https://www.librarything.com/work/15832591/reviews/141526867

I’m starting a Journey to the River Sea. Juvenile fiction, not really fantasy, about a girl in the early 20th century going to live by the Amazon River. Engaging, so far.

marraskuu 27, 2018, 9:38 pm

Here we go! Reading the Prologue of A Memory of Light. Charging into the finish of Wheel of Time.

marraskuu 28, 2018, 6:52 am

I'm in Dinetah, following a Trail of lightning. This is a great contemporary fantasy and unless the ending goes horribly wrong, I highly recommend it.

Muokkaaja: marraskuu 28, 2018, 7:15 am

I'm taking a small break between prose novels to read some graphic ones, so tonight I'll be in old time-y fairy tale lands reading Jim Henson's Storyteller: Fairies and tomorrow, I'll visit the world of Avatar with The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars. Then it's back to novels, though I have a non-fantasy one coming up first before I return to Victorian times for European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman come mid-December. The first book in the series was decent enough, but a bit bland, and sadly nowhere near as good or engrossing as I hoped it would be. Hoping the second outing is an improvement, as there were definitely elements I liked enough to want to continue.

marraskuu 28, 2018, 7:51 am

I’m on Mars watching Red Rising; probably SF rather than fantasy.

marraskuu 29, 2018, 7:52 pm

>28 humouress: I hope you like it better than I did.

marraskuu 29, 2018, 8:29 pm

I'm heading Skyward.

marraskuu 30, 2018, 2:10 am

>29 mattries37315: I'm reading it for a book club, as someone else's enthusiastic choice. I'm a quarter way in; it took me a couple of chapters to get used to it and I don't like tragedy, but that is the basis for the story, so I can live with it. Now it's changing again as Darrow enters a different society - let's see how it goes.

>19 Niko: (malazan) So what did you decide?

joulukuu 14, 2018, 11:44 am

>33 cremorn: LOL! I should've clicked into this thread first. I just posted an update on the Malazan status in the December thread. :)
