Also just added some to The Lay of Aotrou & Itroun.

Honestly you never really know with EP. There are many titles no longer in print that command a high price due to low supply and high demand that they have yet to reprint (including many Tolkien books). If they do plan to reprint them, The Children of Hurin first came out roughly 10 years ago, so you might have to wait a bit.

I am also told the first edition Folio Society's are letterpress. I have a set in black, and they are the most beautiful books I own.

Not really. There was a trace amount of dried glue (or something similar in texture (hoping it's not anthrax)) in the back bottom fold of the moire end sheet. It was nothing that a quick wipe from a dry paper towel couldn't handle.

Not surprising: EP's customer service is a completely different entity from the bindery, which is where the newest of books always seem to ship. One might expect the bindery to let EP management know that a title is ready for shipment but even if EP management is in the same building as EP customer service, I'm willing to bet that the two don't interact much.

I still have a few of these as gaps and I am hoping that EP re-releases some of the titles again.
67Wootle
4. Making of Middle-Earth is not The Shaping of Middle-Earth.
9. End of the Third Age is included in Sauron Defeated but does not publish the entire book.
So 3.5 to go.

The War of the Jewels, 470 pages and includes four parts with subcategories:
- Part One - The Grey Annals
- Part Two - The Later Quenta Silmarillion
- Part Three - The Wanderings of Hurin and other writings not forming part of the Quenta Silmarillion
- Part Four - Quendi and Eldar
There are no pictures or illustrations, but on initial searching I found two of Tolkien's hand drawn maps, and a few hand drawn genealogical trees.
Morgoth's Ring: 471 pages, and includes five parts with various sub categories:
- Part One - Ainulindale
- Part Two - The Annals of Aman
- Part Three - The Later Quenta Silmarillion (with First and Second Phase breakdowns including several sections from everything from the Valar to the Elves, etc.)
- Part Four - Athrabeth Finrod Ah Andreth
- Part Five - Myths Transformed
This did have one color photo of Tolkien's original Black and Red hand written manuscript for "The Tale of the Years". However, besides some very short hierarchies, there were no other maps or illustrations in this book.
So overall, they will compliment prior releases well.

So I keep being on the edge of buying all these titles ... especially when there seems to be no "extras" ... illustrations and such. I appreciate the leather binding and EP touches. And I think I want to grab this title ... at least more so then "THE SHAPING OF MIDDLE-EARTH".
Thanks again for your thoughts!

Perhaps EP simply reprinted Houghton Mifflin Harcourt editions in leather without scaling the text, which would be an added expense and lower their profit margins.
Tolkien-mania is alive and well. No doubt this edition will sell out pretty quickly regardless of whether the size matches the rest and distorts shelf flow ;P. So will the next Tolkien volume. It is why we are seeing more of them. Tolkien's books are a reliable money-maker (whether folks actually read his more obscure works or not). Sometime next year a leather edition of Tolkien's World: A Coloring Book :).
*These newest Tolkien selections are advertised only as "Bound in the USA" unlike the 5-volume set. Are they "overseas-printed" like The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft that conveniently omits country of print on the copyright page mentioning only "Bound in the United States of America"?
90Wootle
I've seen that coloring book, it isn't half bad, maybe it is time for the first EP color your own pages book.
The two newest are the same size as the first edition Houghton Mifflins. Looking at the size posted for the next one "The Shaping of Middle-Earth", it appears it will be back to the original size. That would look really odd having a taller one in the middle of the series.

We appreciate the photos. Since I missed the four volume history set, I'm hoping this is one that Easton will reprint. They still seem to sell out relatively quickly; which is why I now always try to order any Tolkien titles within the first three months of release.

Easton Press The Complete Guide To Middle Earth (Tolkien) RARE By Robert Foster qualifies or not but I do include this book in my collection.
Also, I read something awhile back that the first issue of the Tolkien classics EP put out included the larger version of the Hobbit. Later editions evened it out to the same size. Hopefully that helps.
I am happy to say I have now completed the entire 37 vol collection.
I think the only book I do not have yet is Mr. Bliss. I am not sure if EP will ever release that one.
P.S. Thank you very much for the list you posted very cool and helpful.
Regards Tony

The Complete Guide to Middle Earth is on the above list, item number 1211, but has no photos in the album. If you would like to contribute some, please do.
The over-sized Hobbit I believe is item number 0014, I haven't added it to the list because I am not 100% sure as of yet. That would make it the first appearance of the title by EP. Later releases as you said, have been trimmed down to it's current uniform size.
Congratulations on completing this collection. An all encompassing photo would be nice to add to the thread if you are able to send one to me, I'll add it to the top of post 1.

Oversized Edition: 7" x 9.25" x 1.25" (17.5 cm x 23.5 cm) 317 pages.
Current Edition: 5.75" x 8.75" x 1.15" (14.5 cm x 22.5 cm) 317 pages.
The main differences are the color illustrations. The newer edition crops off the sides, and are washed out. The green toned illustrations are lighter as well.
I'm happy to have the older version in nice condition for the same price as the currently available edition.

They just reprinted Book of Lost Tales within the last year or two, so that one's very unlikely. I thought Atlas of Middle Earth was also reprinted in that time frame but I could be mistaken (since there are several atlases and I don't pay enough attention to be able to distinguish them from each other). The "Art of..." - was that the group of movie-based books? Those would be very unlikely to see again, at least, not if/until Peter Jackson runs out of money some day. Fall of Gondolin seems like it has a reasonable reprint possibility.
