How Many Lesbian Books Have you Read?

(Either Lifetime or Year or both)

I was looking for something else in my Read folder, and just for the heck of it I clicked on my lesbian tag, and yikes, I've read over 500 in my lifetime. Now, I will say that some of them are like Dark Passions a Start Trek book with lesbian undertones, and 52 and Raven Pirate Princess graphic novels with lesbian stories, so, they're not all lesfic, but, holy crap a lot of them are.

I think I may have to make more of an effort to branch out even more than I do right now (just starting Gwenda Bond's new Middle Grade book. Woo!). More Star Trek and Mysteries, less LesFic. :)

But don't stop reading and reviewing the lesfic please. I don't know how many I've read because I only started recording them recently

What was your favourite ever?

>2 Charmella1: I have about 6 on my immediate to-read shelf (so, within the next month or two I'll get to them), so, no, I won't stop reading them, but, as much as I love lesfic. I also love Star Trek novels, and deeply love forensic mysteries/thrillers, and comics (either prose or graphic form). So... I read about 200+ books a year, if they were only lesfic I think that I'd probably go a little loopy... :))

As an aside, I do have all my lesfic reviews on here (almost) because I also have a Tumblr with them on it (http://frombellatoylva.tumblr.com), and so I wanted to get them up. But, yikes, I have so many other reviews to put up here too. (What can I say, I'm a completist).

If you look in my library under my lesbian tag I have a few 5 star ones that I've really liked for various reasons, and some 4, and then most are 3 stars. But, I fall under the category of viewing books as an experience, not as something I need to own. So, I use the library a lot, and so a lot of times my favorite book is the one that I'm reading. And I'm much more likely to have favorite authors, like Gwenda Bond, Melissa Brayden, Radclyffe, Gail Simone, Karis Walsh, Melissa Good, Beverly Connor, my first favorite, who has nothing to do with lesfic all to do with mysteries Margaret Maron.

I love great mysteries too (Maron writes mysteries doesn't she?) and have read many. I tend to think of them as escapism - Tana French is a huge favourite have you read her books? She's one of a handful for whose next book I wait assiduously - also Madeleine Miller recently discovered and I adore.

>5 Charmella1: She used to, yes. She wrote the Sigrid Harald mysteries set in NY (I believe that she just came out with one last one I think), and she wrote 20 Deb Knott mysteries set in North Carolina.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, in the Deb Knott mysteries only the very first in the series Bootlegger's Daughter has any significant LGBTQ+ stuff in it (a gay couple if I recall from the last time I reread it).

I have no idea how many lesfic I have read. I try to buy directly from the publishers now. I am guessing maybe a couple of hundred but I haven't been good at recording them.

I am writing down some of your suggestions. I tend to be all over the map with what I ready- from mysteries (noir to cozy) to general fiction to sci fi to fantasy to non fiction to lesfic...and all those that cross genres.

>7 literatefool: Oh, I definitely try to buy either directly from the publishers, or from the Indie authors that I like. (Of course, sometimes any of those books that I buy then sorta sit there while life explodes in my face.)

I also get some Netgalley/ARC ones because I'm a librarian (I also have a review blog for those and all the lesbian and lesbian-ish fic that I read).

My TBR is more of a mountain than a pile. But I am making my way through.

Netgalley/ARC are pretty cool. Many years ago I worked at a bookstore and we were able to be reviewers. Had some good reads. Pre blogs though.

I like Netgalley (and ARCs in general), and I try not to go too crazy, because, for the most part (except when I made a boo boo and inadvertently clicked on a GB only ARC) I think that we librarians are right under booksellers for people they want to get their books into the hands of.

And, I do post reviews both at work and on my lesfic tumblr as well as bugging my co-workers when I see one that we really really need to get.

And, at least they're all eBooks, and, so, with the setup I have (i.e. non-Kindle) most of the ARCs stop working once the time runs out on them. Bonus... :))

I do buy ones too, but, because I have very little self-control (I mean, ThriftBooks, and Publisher sales, and... so many books) I have a very strict budget, and, I don't wanna run out of budget before the end of the year.

I think they probably like librarians and booksellers about the same as far as advance copies. Booksellers can have a small influence on what is in the stores, but librarians can give the publishers the honest "no one is going to waste money on this" opinion.

I rarely review. I am trying to get better about it but I find so few to really endorse.

I have a lot of hard copy books and a lot of e books. Trying to organize and update things now. Really hard when going through books not to stop going "Oooo this looks interesting!" I usually follow it up with "that's probably why you bough tit and brought it home. Keep moving".

Budget. I have heard of that when it comes to books. Actually, I may be spending less/bringing home less this year. One of my favorite stores sold out. Heartbreaking!
